Usually I buy from Next or Marks and Spencer. sometimes supermarkets or Primark too. Where do you shop for your 10 year old that's may be a wee bit different?

Joules (usually in the sale), Mountain Warehouse for hoodies, fleeces etc. Landsend for t-shirts, casual trousers and shorts. We also get quite a few things in places like Go Outdoors.

It depends what you are looking for, my DS(10) would live in shorts, t-shirts, trainers and hoodies.

My 11 yr old has suddenly finally developed an interest in what he wears. But unfortunately it's all labels, labels, labels. This now involves us going to Sports Direct and filling 2 large baskets. He tries them on himself in the shop and we buy what he likes.

He tries them on again at home and then a few more things might get returned.

He's also not adverse to a bit of a charity shop rummage and occasionally we might go to JD Sports - but I'm discouraging this as he's growing like a weed and the stuff in there is, imo, overpriced.

River island is great for boys clothes as is Zara.

TKMaxx often have good value, good quality Converse or surfy style tshirts for kids, and tracksuit bottoms too.

We tend to shop at Gap Outlet too as both DCs just want to wear jogging bottoms and hoodies, they're not into brands and I find Gap stuff washes and lasts well, plus there are lots of other colours rather than just blue and brown.

I buy my boys clothes from

H & M - as they do plain neutral items with no characters etc plus great for skinny Biker jeans

Next - wash so well , again I stick to neutral things that I can mix and match easily

Few bits from Tesco usually just vests and t shirts and underwear though

Buy loads on eBay and from charity shops and car boots sales too , to mix in with brand new stuff

My DS 11 is quite tall so I've started buying small men's t shirts for him from TK Maxx. He recently got some clothes from M&S and Zara which he chose himself but trainers I've had to spend a small fortune on as he starts secondary school in Sept so needs branded all black trainers and his feet are adult size 7.

I usually buy from Gap, Debenhams and Matalan. My boy kind of looks good in them although he is still 7 though. I also check on peacocks.co.uk and riverisland.com sometimes.

Thanks. Good suggestions.

TKMaxx is always worth a look. At that age my DSs often had Replay jeans from there, which is an Italian brand and often very nicely cut with great details, also some Converse t-shirts (and I noticed my branch have a lot of those in at the moment) and DS2 once had a pair of very nice Levis jeans at a great bargain price. They also sometimes have kids' leather jackets which are a bit different.

Don't rule out charity shops either - they may have something unusual that you wouldn't usually buy for a growing child because of the price. My best finds in one for the kids were a pair of Kickers boots in as-new condition and a yellow Gap hoodie that got years of wear. We could have had a Scotland rugby shirt too but as it happens neither of the kids is really into Scotland or rugby.

From advice on here, John Lewis own brand stuff is lovely and not eye wateringly expensive. So frustrating when shops have rack upon rack of girls' clothes and a teeny corner for the boys.

Everyday wear I love Morrison's nutmeg range. It's cute, nicely made and doesn't cost the earth. Also Next and occasionally marks and Spencer's.
A friend has gifted me a load of GAP stuff which I love and John Lewis for a best outfit.
