Had my gorgeous baby 2 months ago. I am still 2 stone heavier than pre pregnancy (although dropping).
My question is do I buy new clothes that fit me now (which will only last a short while as I continue to hopefully loose weight). Or wait till I am back to fitting my old clothes (and stick to my horrible maternity leggings , tops and one pair of jeans)?.

I am hating my current wardrobe but don't have luxury to waste money. Also will I loose motivation to loose weight if I buy nice new well fitting clothes??

I found buying a couple of nice bits when I was feeling at my lowest, made me feel better. Feeling better made me exercise and eat healthily and thus a chain of events began! I soon lost more weight and felt much better about how I looked.
Also get your hair done and although you may not be keen on your body at the moment (although it has performed a tiny, screaming miracle!), get some nice products and scrub and moisturise if you have time. Again, all helps boost your confidence. Yes the only thing that matters at the moment is your baby and you shouldn't worry about how you look, but if it makes you feel better then it is good for everyone.
Congratulations on your baby!

P.S all of the above can be done cheaply - supermarket for a couple of tops and jeggings, Poundland for a nice body scrub and lotion, and local college for a good trim.

I remember this stage OP! I bought a few nice things from v cheap places. New Look and Dorothy Perkins in the sale, Tu at Sainsbury's, George at Asda.

I wore the maternity stuff round the house still (newborns can be messy as you know!) And threw on a nicer top when I was heading out. Made me feel more like 'me'

Congratulations on the baby Flowers

I agree to pick up a few cheaper things - uniqlo has some nice dresses and tu, so you feel you're not still in maternity. 2 months is early days though - be kind to yourself, I don't think I was anywhere close to back to normal til 8-10 months with both.

Congrats ! I'm 7 months now after having a baby and I bought a few cheap bits. Just some tops mainly and it definitely lifted my spirits. I wore them to death so they owe me nothing.
I bought one nice top from Ted baker for going out and a COS jumper. Both of which I got altered to take in a few weeks ago so I'm glad now they r not wasted. I found a big mental lift by making the effort.. people said u look well and it helped me keep going with the walking and the weight loss. On my first maternity leave I wore my pjs a lot (at home this is!) but this time I didn't - I made myself do my hair etc and I felt the better for it

Congratulations on your baby!Flowers

I would just get a couple of clothes first to wear now as you wouldn't be able to fit your clothes on at least for another few months as you need to be feeding your baby and you need lots of nutrition. Be sure not to go diet plans as it will effect on your milk supply. Maybe you can plan on yoga after the baby it about six months and try loosing weight and get back to your current wardrobe.

Flanderspigeonmurderer · 06/08/2017 10:31

I would recommend h&ms feathersoft jeggings. They do sizes in between sizes if you see what I mean.

Turneeps · 06/08/2017 11:22

You've persuaded me!! I'll go shipping this week.
AmyOb I'm not doing a diet, just stopped evening snacking and getting out for walks and cycling at weekend (only one hour incase DD needs fed!).
Will try supermarkets and those H&m leggings, anything to cover my saggy mummy tummy!

Have an 8 week old too! Still clinging onto my maternity jeans :) they're just far more comfy!! I bought lots of active wear cos it's lovely and cosy around the house and practical then for going out walking. And easy to dry when being washed after getting covered in baby sick!! Haven't bought any "nice" clothes really as I'm feeding and nothing very feeding friendly!! Although penneys (primark) have some lovely wrap tops. Or Bardot tops with a pretty bralette.

Turneeps · 06/08/2017 14:04

Pretty bralette, if only!! I need major scaffolding to contain my norks, I can't wait to burn all my nursing in a few months!!

Hahaha I did buy one or two but have yet braved them.... have gone from an a to a d so feeling fairly mahoosive there too :) figure it's ok to show a bra strap (once it's the same colour!)

imjessie · 06/08/2017 15:45

Go to Tesco and get some jeans that fit you . They have great cheap clothes . You must be uncomfortable wearing clothes 2 stone too small .

Turneeps · 07/08/2017 21:25

Not 2 stone too small, I'm still in my maternity clothes!!

Turneeps · 07/08/2017 21:26

I.e massive

OP posts:
ZooLanePetCorner · 08/08/2017 07:35

Hardly massive - 2 stone after having a baby isn't massive. You'll get there, be kind to yourself. I remember this feeling but it comes off in the end.

10Betty10 · 08/08/2017 11:44

Try the Asda Wonderfit jeans- I'm 3 weeks postpartum and they have been a godsend- they come in sizes that cover a few sizes and are really stretchy. I was wearing my maternity jeans until I wore the wonderfit. Maternity jeans when not pregnant just make you look bigger than you actually are as they scoop the tummy flab forward into a bump like shape!
