Reall dry frizzy coarse hair - help please

lovethebeach · 05/08/2017 21:49

Please help my hair is hideous at the moment it is soooo dry and coarse and feels really rough. I think I have damaged it by using straighteners too much to straighten and curl my hair.
I've really paid the price now as it's horrible. The only way I can make it ok is by straightening which causes more damage. Is there a product or treatment that can help me PLEASE.
Sorry if this is the wrong section I will redirect.

Macadamia deep conditioning masque is v good.

Also think about having a Brazilian keratin blow dry - then you can abandon the straighteners

Have you tried Philip Kingsley elasticiser? Expensive but you don't need it every wash. you can leave it in overnight initially and it really works, well I think so anyway. You can quite often get hold of sample sized tubes on eBay before taking the plunge for a large bottle.

If the ends of your hair are very damaged then nothing will help and you will need to get the ends cutoff as the damage seems to work its way back along the hair.

PickAChew · 05/08/2017 22:35

A good trim will be the only thing that will completely rescue it.

Aridane · 05/08/2017 22:36

Elasticiser never really did anything for my hair - so agree with poster above and trying a sample first. BTW - there is now also Elasticiser Extreme!

comeagainforbigfudge · 05/08/2017 22:38

My hair is a pure ball of frizz.

I just had a treatment called kerasilk. Defrizz treatment that lasts 4-6 weeks. Only had it done a few days ago but so far so good! It feels swishy and although hasnt eliminated frizz completely it has vastly reduced it Grin

Try tigi resurrection shamp and conditioner (red bottles level 3)

Ohyesiam · 06/08/2017 05:59

Look into curly girl method, works well for all damaged hair, not just curly. It's primarily about black women's hair, so there are bits I missed out, but it will be obvious to you what applies to your hair

It's a real game changer.

Coconut oil! Leave it on overnight

WooWooChooChoo · 06/08/2017 07:36

I found this product made a big difference to my hair when I had been straightening too much. Plus it is very reasonable!

Thanks so much for your replies it's really useful to know what works and what doesn't. @comeagainforbigfudge I haven't had swish hair in ages! Happy you have Smile
It's always better the day after I wash it as it goes nice and flat when I've slept on it. I only had it cut about three weeks ago and had it cut into an inverted bob quite short at the back but has grown out a bit so needs more straightening. I might trying growing a bit more and get layers put in and maybe won't need straightening.
Thanks again 😊

Another vote for elasticizer here. Bloody brilliant stuff

dudsville · 06/08/2017 08:11

I second the pp who said go for a trim. I also swear by khiels shampoo and conditioner for dry or damaged hair. If you have a shop near you, you can ask for a sample.

AmyOb · 06/08/2017 11:26

You need to apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair. This will help you to provide moisture and make your hair more manageable. Look for products with silicone, coconut oil, silk or vitamin E.
You can also make a moisturizing hair mask by mashing an avocado and adding olive oil until the mixture becomes a thick paste. Put it in the microwave just to warm it up and apply it to your hair. Rinse it out after 30 minutes.
however you will need to trim off at least the bottom inch of your hair to promote healthy hair growth.
Don't forget to eat foods rich in protein to strengthen your hair, which is made of proteins like Chicken, nuts and fish.

Actually I'm wearing nerd no if my diet may be partly too do with it, I do eat quite a lot of chicken but don't eat any type of sea food at all.

Keratin straightening treatment?

000PuraVida000 · 06/08/2017 14:17

And moroccan oil

rightwhine · 06/08/2017 14:23

The shampoo and conditioner that makes mine softer is the cheapo alberto balsam raspberry one. About £1 a bottle.
Maybe try that after some of the above suggestions? It won't break the bank if it doesn't work for your hair.

lovethebeach · 06/08/2017 15:45

Thanks I've been using Aussie miracle moist shampoo and conditioner plus I use redken frizz dismiss and frizz ease nourishing oil elixir BUT I go swimming about three times a week, my hair has been highlighted three times in the last three months - bad hairdresser experience - and I straighten it so will definitely do some research into the products you recommend and the home made mask sounds great.

I second coconut oil. Slap it on, leave it, wash it off. You can do it as often as needed too. Also avoiding any heat has helped my (frizzy, wavy, thick) hair. It's a pain waiting for it to dry but it's in much better condition.

Aridane · 06/08/2017 16:00

Swimming cap!!

specialsubject · 06/08/2017 16:17

Wella Straight from a hairdresser. Just had my annual treatment - swish....

Lovely smooth silky hair, unbelievable. Worth every penny.
