DD accidental orange hair disaster

MissisBoote · 05/08/2017 21:27

DD has been trying to lighten her dark blonde hair.

She's used majirel 9.0 with 9% 30 vol.
It's gone orange.

I've tried to lift it with a purple shampoo which has made it more of a strawberry blonde.

What would be best to do next?

Colour B4? There's no other dye on her hair. Would it just go back to her normal hair colour?

Try something like this? www.superdrug.com/Hair/Hair-Colourants/Semi-Permanent/Scott-Cornwall-Colour-Restore-Iced-Platinum-100ml/p/499703

Or try a dark Ash blonde dye on top of the orange?

Colour b4 won't do anything to bleached hair, either bleach again to lift past the orange or so for the ash blonde dye and hope.

So do a strand test and redye. Will she need to leave it for longer do you think?

What are the possible risks to the Ash blonde dye? Would it go green?

No, don't double process!! Try a blue shampoo/toner first, if you can't get or make a blue shampoo/toner then I would suggest a true semi permanent with NO developer or else your dd will fry her hair!

MissisBoote · 05/08/2017 21:57

What's the best blue toner/shampoo? I can get to most shops.

Luckily its the school holidays so she's got a few weeks grace.

It's a little patchy in that she's given herself highlights.

How would this affect any dye if we went down that route?

I'd use a toner. Bleach London do a toner.

purpleoasis · 05/08/2017 22:18

Jerome Russel silver or platinum toner! Trust me it's fab!

Use as the instructions say, don't forget the cling film as it makes a difference. You can wash bits off as you go to see colour change as well but with her hair it shouldn't go proper silver anyway. It's only £3 in b and m Grin

I'd go to a hairdresser, and then it's (hopefully) done once and done right. You could spend ages and a small fortune on dyes and bleach, and ruin her hair.

MissisBoote · 06/08/2017 07:45

Right - I'm going to try a toner today.

Once her roots start to show through I should be OK to put a level 1 dye on it shouldn't I?

If all else fails I'll phone the hairdresser.

Watching with interest .. dd has done the same! Bleached her dark brown hair twice .. is very ginger!

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 09/08/2017 02:40

Go to a salon or you risk running her hair. You can't expect bleached hair to return to how it was. You've removed colour.

youlittlecharmer · 09/08/2017 09:57

toner won't do much if it's orange. she either needs to bleach it again, but very carefully, or put a blonde dye without bleach in over the top. or go to the hairdressers for a full head of highlights.

MissisBoote · 09/08/2017 11:02

I used the jerome russell silver toner and it's definitely toned it down. I've also bought her some silver shampoo.

userwithoutaname hope your daughter gets her hair sorted out. I'm sure it's a teenage rite of passage.

It's now a light strawberry blonde - and having walked around town yesterday, it's considerably less orange than other people Grin
