"don't pluck if you thread"

I'm perimenopausal and growing a lush beard.

Always had a couple of hairs which I've plucked, for years - probably 30 years. There's more of them and a lot of fuzz, so, I thought I'd try threading.

Beautician was great - but, had a problem with the hairs I've plucked. Said that plucking makes them like The Enormous Turnip (well, not a quote) because it distorts the follicle.

She wants me to let them grow until the next threading...well, it's day 3 and I've already got witchy stubble and am ITCHING to pluck the 4 jaggy wee feckers.

Is this right? Is there really a difference? Can't I pluck in-between, or do people go and get threaded every week?

This is truly the stuff of nightmares, OP. I would absolutely be compelled to pluck.

MrsPestilence · 02/08/2017 15:15

Threading is just a method of mass plucking. It is the hormones that make them grow into enormous turnips.

Wondermoomin · 02/08/2017 15:16

I've never heard of this don't pluck advice. I pluck the occasional eyebrow strand in between threadings and they've never turned into giant turnips, nor have they caused the threader to comment.

Is laser hair removal / electrolysis or something an option for you?

libertydoddle · 02/08/2017 15:23

Just pluck them. As PP said, threading is the exact same thing.

Like some Americans would rather die in a shoot out than give up their guns I will not have my tweezers taken from me. No one will deny me that monthly pleasure of uprooting those two bristly bastards that appear on my jaw line.

I've converted to shaving my face. Quick swipe over with a mans razor (better quality for a cheaper price) every 5/10 days whenever I recall to do it. Make up goes on so much smoother and evenly, no more face fuzz.

Haffiana · 02/08/2017 17:19

I bought a Lumea and I really, really miss plucking away at my chin hairs. Sad

Haffiana · 02/08/2017 17:20

I don't want to offend anyone, but the tripe I have heard from beauticians over the years is staggering. Threading IS plucking.

TheNoseyProject · 02/08/2017 17:21

Plucking once a month! So jealous. Daily for me!

Anyway, threading is plucking so.... surely fine

BunloafAndCrumpets · 02/08/2017 17:29

I might be cynical and have no knowledge of this but I wonder if the difference is that the beautician doesn't get paid when you pluck?!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 02/08/2017 17:33

Plucking is what she does as well.

She's either ignorant or she's telling you porkies so you keep paying her.
Dump the cow.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 02/08/2017 17:59

Aha! This is what I suspected! It's still ripping it out by the root, can't see what difference it'd make at all - apart from I land up going every week to have my hairy face sorted. She did make a really good job of it, mind.

I've looked a lumea and sorely tempted. But, you have to shave before applying it? Or, can you pluck and then zap? Not sure about living with stubble.

Agree re tweezers. My kids nicked mine to make hama bead creations of all things. That was nipped in the bud...Mum's Tweezers Are Not For Crafts.

I get my brows threaded every 2-3 weeks, and pluck strays in between.

I don't think my brows clock whether it's a tweezer or a thread removing them. Wink

jeaux90 · 02/08/2017 21:00

I use a twinkle. Stopped threading and waxing. You can buy them off Amazon and learn off YouTube how to micro blade at home. I found it better for my skin. (Im 45 so have similar issues)

So the reason it's best not to tweeze in between is because if you don't then after a few sessions of threading/waxing all the hairs are at the same stage of growth when they are pulled out so that means you stay smoother for longer- you don't get random ones growing back every few days.
Tweezing doesn't encourage thicker growth though.

FuckitAndStartAgain · 02/08/2017 23:59

Shaving? Is that really a good plan? Have a friend who when she kisses me I can feel rough stubble. I am guessing you can't avoid that if shaving?
