legs burned in salon - advice please

DD had her legs waxed in a local salon. Long story short - new and nervous assistant has burned both her legs - the burns look like brown patches now (after 2 weeks) - like having several birthmarks on her leg is probably easiest way to describe them but there is still very red area on one leg. Will these marks fade and how long might that take? She is about to go to a professional dance college so this is terrible timing for her. What should I do about this? I feel I should not just let it go.

Forgot to say - salon manager knew it had happened and I have seen her and she is very apologetic and refunded the cost of that treatment. It is really whether I should take this further in DD's situation with her future training/work.

Has she been to doctor. I doubt anyone on MN will be able to tell you the likely prognosis. She'd be best going to her GP and asking for a referral to a determatologist/plastic surgeon.

In terms of "not letting it go". I presume you mean a potential civil claim? How old is your daughter? If she's under 18 then you can be a "litigation friend" and bring claim. You may have LEI on your home insurance or other insurance policies so do check those out.

If she's over 18 she would have to bring a claim. She should check if she has LEI insurance otherwise most major personal injury firms work on CFAs "no win no fee agreements".

Hope you daughters legs get better soon.

Thanks Duckstar, she is 18. Sorry not sure what is LEI insurance is and I am pretty sure she would not have it then. Should she?

What would people be happy with to resolve this? Should I investigate a claim? I haven't ever done anything like that before despite having had a fairly serious mistake made on me during an NHS treatment.

LEI: Legal Expenses Insurance - basically means they will pay legal fees on certain claims. She may be covered on household policy.

In terms of "investivating claim". Take photos of her injuries. Keep copies of any correspondence from salon. Keep any reciepts of any costs incurred (medication, mileage for medical appointments etc)

If your daughter contacts a solicitor they will want to know how bad damage is (that effects how much they can claim in fees). Therefore my suggestion to get to GP as they may say "superficial" or refer.

I wouldn't investigate the claim though. Leave that to solicitor.

Duckstar · 01/08/2017 20:44

In terms of what would I except to resolve that all depends on how bad damage is. If it's superficial I may let go. If it meant I had to give up dancing career I would be seeking fair compensation.

The salon should have insurance so I would pursue a claim. That's what it's for.

Would I have to think of an amount or does a third party do that? I would not really know at the moment - I have said I will wait to see if the marks go away but I am not sure they will that easily.

We're the burns bad enough to require to see a doctor? Did they blister or anything? I had about a three inch mark very similar to what you describe the last time I had my legs waxed, which was 18th June. I assumed at the time that it was a minor burn and/or she'd pulled a layer of skin off. It's gone now completely - I'm not sure exactly when it disappeared, it was certainly there two weeks ago.

If you can get hold of Mebo cream, it works wonders.

I had a similar experience whereby the beautician badly burnt the sides of my mouth after a lip waxing. Applying this ointment worked so well after a week you wouldn't know anything had happened. Hope your DD's legs clear up soon x

Would you not have taken her to Dr , dermatologist first rather than thinking about claims? Just seems wrong way round
