I ended up looking like an oompah lumpah... Thank god I had porcelain face powder to cover it up... These video bloggers make it look so easy.

Tried it.
Looked like i had rolled in mud.
Gave up.

I wouldn't. It's only really a technique for when you're on camera or having a picture taken. Never looks great in the flesh.

My DD does it all the time. It takes her ages and although she looks stunning at the end it really isn't very different to the way she looked at the start so,I'm not sure it's worth the effort.

Having watched her do it, the trick seems to be using a LOT of product at the start, very judicious blending and then stippling the final foundation over the top so as not to smudge the contours. She learned from watching YouTube videos. If she is spending as much time researching for her finals as she does researching makeup techniques she is bound to get a first.

I don't use the darker shade on my cheeks, I use blusher or I just look as though I have a grubby face.
The trick is to get the shades right and blend blend blend.
It's a faff though. I only add a wee bit of highlighter here and there.

Clinique contour palette

Bronzer on biggish brush in a reverse 3 -forehead, cheek hollows (suck in and dip down your head to make these visible) and just under jawbone

If you need to, a narrow brush down each side of the nose into the eye socket

Blush on apples of cheeks (smile!) but it too close to nose

Highlight on cheekbones and just under eyebrows

It looks great, not too in your face but makes the most of your natural face contours. I think the problems come when people overdo it or use too dark bronzer

I like it. Blusher has always made me look ruddy and a bit gaudy (I have super pale skin) but a touch of bronze down my cheekbones makes me look healthy and thinner! I don't bother with all the other faff, just a bit of well-blended bronzer underneath my mostly imaginary cheekbones. Makes a world of difference.

I only wear highlighter if I'm going out at night, as daytime highlighter again looks a bit gaudy on me.

proper contouring like the instagram videos take almost an hours (I tried to learn from a makeup artist). You have to blend and blend and blend. I can't be bothered. I put a bit of benefit hoola under my cheekbones and a bit of bobbi brown shimmer brick on top. Does improve my look slightly making my face a little thinner, but obviously doesn't make me a different person!!

Extreme instagram style contouring is going out of fashion, imo. Looks good on camera, but so unnatural in real life.
