Monster coldsores

I am currently sporting a gianormous coldsore on my bottom lip. It is throbbing like a mofo, and I look like I've been punched in the mouth. I used Zovirax from the very first tingle to try and stop it in its tracks - it's done nothing.
Currently got a compeed coldsore plaster stuck onto it. It looks like a weird plastic thing on my lip now.

I am immunosupressed so more prone to them. Can anyone please give me any tips of best remedies, cures, ways to prevent them?

Neat Teatree oil dabbed on regularly works for me Smile

Such a shame Boots stopped making the light machines.

I put a tiny dab of perfume on regularly when it starts to blister and it dries up really quickly. my gran told me to do that and it does work.

  • zovirax when at work. tastes foul but smells nice Grin

@ChardonnaysPrettySister I have one and swear by it but am dreading the day it stops working.

The quickest healing of any cold sore is using the patches. They heal with less scabbing and scaring.

I have two, I thought I’d lost one and bought a second one and then of course the first turned up, but I have been recommending them here a lot and then one day they simply stopped selling them.

They do work.

Nadine Baggot, the beauty blogger, has a YouTube video on cold sores, very informative.

I definitely recommend L-lysine too. I was getting cold sores every few months at one point a few years back. I bought some L-lysine from Holland and Barrett. I don't take the tablets everyday just when I'm starting to get run down as this is when cold sores used to appear. Taking L-lysine I've had a period of about 2 years without a cold sore.

Chanelprincess · 25/11/2018 11:53

L-lysine definitely. Zovirax does nothing for me regardless of how early I apply it and dries out my skin horribly.

HolyMountain · 25/11/2018 13:19

I’m going to invest in L-lysine, stress triggers mine and I’ve had a peach on my top lip this last week despite plastering cream on it.

Thanks for the tip.

I used to get cold sores really badly like every other month
Doctor wouldn’t give me anti supresents
So I went on line to superdrug and filled out a online symptom questionnaire
I had to take a few photos of my lips with the cold sores in place and then they prescribed it to me
I can now get it as often as I need on repeat
I get a three month course and it can last me up to six months
I don’t take them every day although I did initially for the first three months
Then I started every other day then every 3rd day now I do twice a week
And I haven’t had a outbreak in 3 years.

Yes you're right, I swear by this stuff and now they've gone and stopped making it ... Typical.

Fybro14 · 08/10/2019 23:36

Blistex for Cold Sores is way better than Zovirax. Trouble is once we have this virus given to us ( usually by our own Mums ) there's no getting rid of it. My first reaction to it was a week in bed, couldn't move, no one knew what was wrong, I was 5. 49 yrs later. I woke up with 9 across my lips, could hardly talk. Two months later diagnosed with Fybro, be very careful where these little bliters are concerned !
