Nostril piercing

I had my nose pierced about 15 years ago with a gun and it was awful, sore, painful and got infected Sad. Anyways, I've plucked up the courage to have it done again but not sure if I should go for gun or needle. I've asked a few people and they've had it done with a gun but after looking on the internet I've read it should be done with a needle. I'm hoping someone might be able to advise me and also on what to expect in regards to pain 😖

I had it done with a needle. I'd be surprised if a proper tattoo/piercing studio used a gun? It hardly hurt, and I'm a wimp. Do a bit of research, go somewhere with a really good reputation and it'll be over in seconds. Then wash a couple of times a day for a bit with cooled boiled salty water and a cotton bud Smile

Definitely a needle! A gun will put the wrong kind of jewellery straight in (something like an earring with a butterfly back) and it just never heals well at all! Speaking from experience - I've had it done with both needle and gun and I'd say needle. It hurt less too.

OMG 😲 I've had it done (needle). It was quicker than I thought it would be and the pain wasn't as bad at the time but bloody hell fire am I in pain right now!!!!!

Woo hoo! Mine took about a year to heal PROPERLY i.e. able to swap rings and studs out without it going all inflamed.

Keep it clean with salt water Smile

Well done! I had it done with a needle too and it was extremely painful! Be careful, I managed to pull it out in my sleep on the first night...getting it back in was very very unpleasant!

CreativeBee · 29/07/2017 17:15

Urgh I've been warned about it being pulled out, going to stick a round plaster on it tonight and hope it doesn't pull out.

Sounds like a good idea!

Polkadot1974 · 29/07/2017 21:15

I've always wanted a nose stud but you're scaring me!

GrimDamnFanjo · 29/07/2017 22:07

Always go to a specialist piercer at a Tattoo studio who will use a needle. Guns can cause a lot of harm and a piercer will be able to pierce you in the right place quickly and with skill.
Be prepared for it to take a while to settle.
I have 4 cartilage piercings and I go to Nicole at Love Hate Social Club [London, Notting Hill]. The one she didn't do has been a nightmare as the piercer went in at an angle and I nearly had to retire it, but Nicole helped to sort it out.
You want to enjoy your piercing so take time to find someone you are confident with [and check out the high end sparkly stuff by the likes of BVLA ;) ]

rach glad it worked for you but that is seriously bad advice, *best way to avoid infection '? Hmm

Wildidle · 30/07/2017 11:02

Please don't listen to Rach93, twisting it stops the fistula from healing and surgical spirit will try it out. Saline soaks are your friend.

barefoofdoctor · 30/07/2017 11:04

No reputable piercing place is going to allow you to provide your own, non autoclavable, jewellery with you for a new piercing. And surgical spirit? On your face?

IrritatedUser1960 · 30/07/2017 11:06

Needle, it hurt like fuck but only for a few seconds.

CreativeBee · 30/07/2017 12:23

The one the piecer put in is a plastic one with a little gem, pain has subsided but hurts like hell to yawn Sad. Jules1987 my children had a fit yesterday when they saw it, DS (17 mildly autistic) said it looked chavy and DD (SEN 11) cried and told me she was angry that I had it done, I was actually shocked at their reactions. I actually questioned myself if I should have had it done but I really like it, both DC can't comprehend any kind of change so trying not to take it personally but it's hard lol.

Needle! And leave it alone as much as possible. DO NOT TWIST IT! Any activity that moves it can pull tiny particles of crusted blood and puts through the hole and irritate it.
