Morganite or tourmaline?

I received a morganite ring at Christmas which was beautiful in the shop but it quickly started going very dull and cloudy? I have steam cleaned it, put it in cleaner etc and no joy.

Anyway after a few emails back and forth to shop I received a message if I wanted to swap the morganite to a tourmaline? I have never saw or heard of these?

Can anyone give me some info or advice on what to do, are they the same value etc?

I think I would swap if the morganite is something that will always tarnish. You want to be able to wear your ring. So I would ask to see the tourmaline and make the decision on appearance/durability rather than financial value.

I suppose, I was going to look at saving for loose diamond and putting that in but that's been put on hold.

Will hopefully get to shop in couple of weeks to have a look. Thanks.

I think morganite is not a massively expensive stone, so it wouldn't be like exchanging a diamond for a semi precious stone.

Look at this gorgeous tourmaline ring . I think the stone in it was vintage though.

Not hugely expensive and was cheaper than my diamond engagement ring but still cost us quite a bit as it has diamonds around and on the band.

Was just a bit gutted as it's sat in its box and I'm back to wearing my diamond. Feels like a bit of a waste.

Will head down and see what they say and what the tourmaline looks like 🙂

That's beautiful Maisie. The shop just got in a green diamond and it looks beautiful. I think the jeweller is keeping it though.

You can also get green sapphires, some of them are a lovely colour.

I've just gone through a bit of a jewellery phase as I had my engagement ring remodelled recently (by the jeweller in that link actually). Anyway I ended up on a website that sells loose gems at one point. I didn't buy any and I'm not sure what the safety aspect is like but it was good for ideas. I'll see if I can find it.

Aw fab, I went through a phase of wanting a green beryl to replace my engagement ring but the stone was huge and wasn't too keen.

That would be great, thanks very much. The rings on that site are gorgeous 😍

Tourmaline is gorgeous.

It's also the birthstone for October irrelevant if your birthday isn't in October

MaisieDotes · 29/07/2017 12:30

I think it was one

MaisieDotes · 29/07/2017 12:31

Yeah that didn't work! this one!

needsomesunshineandwine · 29/07/2017 12:33

Aw is it? I'm not October but my baby will be born then 🙂.

you need to look at www.gemselect.com/gem-info/gem-hardness-info.php

Tourmaline is no harder than morganite. I would switch to pink sapphire for something more durable.

Thanks for the link @tickingthebox
