white canvas pumps - wash or not?

I've got some white canvas lace up pumps. First pair I have owned since school 30 years ago.

Should I aim to keep them white and keep washing them or let them get grubby? I've already had to wash them after sitting on some squashed fruit at a picnic as that wasn't a look I was aiming for.

I actually own some pump whitener but have memories of it looking bit chalky and naff.

I stick my white converse in the machine for a wash quite regularly, they come out ok but a bit tight for the first wear

I finally took the plunge and washed my white converse a while ago. Wrapped them in an old towel to stop the banging about but they came out great.

I wash all trainers, pumps, football boots and rugby boots. They come out like new!

I washed my white Supergas twice now. The first time was great, second time they have a tiny bit of yellowing but overall so much better than just grubbiness.

I use non-bio powder which has a bit of a bleachy effect I find.

Oh and some Dettol laundry stuff or zoflora to get rid of any whiffs, because I wash them at 30.

All canvas footwear should be washed regularly.

You wash your clothes so why not synthetic footwear?

I can't understand why you wouldn't wash them!

Place in pillowcase and put in washing machine.

Mind you I can't stand grubby looking footwear, so maybe it's me!

Thanks All!

I recall a thread ages ago about Converse where people were saying that washing them was a style crime and the more battered the better. So I thought the same might apply. I prefer to wash though they are already yellowing bit around the rubber.

I'm not very into the battered look either. But then I heard on the radio this week you shouldn't wash denim just brush dirt off them and put them in the freezer to kill the germs. Shock
