Is there anything that genuinely makes your hair grow faster?

...I think I know the answer, but, is there anything?

I love my crop but looking at recent photos realised it's not suiting my hair type and not doing much for me, want a cropped inverted bob, jawline length, but always flake out at trying to stick with growing it out!!

Sunshine! Proper sunshine, though, not the UK sort. It's very warm where I am, and my hair and nails are growing faster than ever

(Sorry, I know my post wasn't very helpful...)

Watching:

the only thing that seemed to make my hair grow quicker was the period of time between me noticing my roots to the time I could get another dye on it (usually 3 weeks) . I don't dye my hair at all now.

I go every 5-6 weeks to get it cut, the last week sees it going from 'Mm ok' to 'aaaargh cut it off' in 48 hours.

The common advice abut "Its hair , it'll grow" laughs hollowly when you're trying to grow it.

The only option for me is to scalp it off then let it grow all together rather than trying to keep the short sides/longer top before it gets wild and scruffy.

Not a look I could carry off though unless I could stay indoors for 6 weeks Hmm

I don't know if it was the OP or another poster that said they get their hair cut every 5 weeks, so I'm just directing this generally.

If you're getting your hair cut every 5-6 weeks you're never going to get any growth. Hair grows on average (so a lot of people get less than this) half an inch a month.

Unless your hairdresser is only doing the tiniest of microtrims, they will almost certainly be chopping off any growth you've had.

If people aren't heat styling regularly and are taking fairly good care of their hair, then there isn't any need to get hair cut any more than every 16 weeks. If people are heat styling regularly, then going through your hair and 'Search and Destroying' once a fortnight, whereby you stand near a window or natural light, section hair and go through and cut off all the split ends/ breaks you see is a good way to get rid of damage without sacrificing length.

In regards to increasing growth rate, tipping your head upside down for a few minutes every day and massaging your scalp can boost growth, it's called the 'inversion method' if you want to google it.

Biotin can also help, though a lot of people (me included) suffer with spots whilst taking it.

Upping your protein and ensuring you are getting enough iron in your diet etc can also help.

Weekly deep conditioning, daily oiling of ends will keep the hair you do have in better condition, therefore retaining length.

I've been putting caster oil in my lashes and through my hair and don't think it's encouraged the growth that a previous thread suggested it would... in good condition though. But I too want longer hair and am following this thread with interest

Megatek it is for horses but it works. There is apparently a human version but it is cheaper to buy the horse stuff and the ingredients are safe. Massage into your scalp once a week and leave on overnight then wash out in the morning. It also improves the growth of your nails.

Agree with above from Leafy upside down head massage every time you wash your hair.

Loads of protein and a selenium supplement.

Coconut oil. Massage through damp hair and onto scalp. Leave overnight (put towel over your pillowcase and tie your hair up on top of your head). Shampoo well the next morning, I usually need to shampoo mine twice to get it out, then condition as usual.

The difference in my hair is phenomenal, to the point my hairdresser noticed immediately. Makes is feel much thicker and swishier and shinier and seems to make it all grow quicker, plus hairdresser commented on new baby hairs growing through too. I try and do this once a week.
