Is Olaplex only for damaged hair?

Or can it be a preventative measure?

My hair is in ok condition, not terrible. But it is highlighted and does get dry at the ends in between cuts.

Is Olaplex useful, or is it a waste of money unless your hair is in terrible condition to start with?

I had the same situation and found it was probably a waste of money if your hair is in good condition.

treaclesoda · 27/07/2017 04:35

Thanks! I'll not waste my money then. Smile

If your hair is highlighted and gets dry at the ends that's not 'good' condition 😂 olaplex is particularly good when used in bleacged or high lift highlights

treaclesoda · 27/07/2017 21:33

I didn't say it was in good condition Confused I said it was ok. And it is ok. It doesn't break or snap, and if I take the time to blow dry it, it feels nice and soft and looks shiney.

I just associated Olaplex with really damaged hair and wondered if it would be worthwhile for me or not. Smile

I had it done in the salon last month. Wasn't planned, but they were doing it half price so I thought 'why not?'. My hair wasn't damaged at all, maybe a little bit dry and lack lustre.

It made my hair lovely and soft, swishy and shiny. I was really pleased. Its still really soft a month later and doesn't feel dry after shampooing (which it sometimes used to, before I put conditioner on). Using a lot less conditioner.

Under name said it was a waste if your hair was in good condition and you said ok it wasn't worth you using it - actually implying your hair was in good condition. As a hairdresser I was disagreeing and would suggest that in my experience - which is pretty extensive that olaplex is excellent with highlights and dry ends . But hey no probs I'll just move on

treaclesoda · 27/07/2017 22:14

Ok, thanks for the advice. Maybe it will be worthwhile then, I'll maybe give it a go. I was just confused because I hadn't said that my hair is in good condition and the laughing emoji felt a bit sneery.

But I do appreciate your advice, and if you feel that it's a good treatment for hair that is just a bit dry at the ends then I'll maybe give it a go.

Olaplex 1 is mixed with the dye/bleach and helps to prevent the damaged bleaching causes - the more times you have highlights the worse it gets - the is always overlap on bleaching and the damage is cumulative.
Olaplex 2 is used as a conditioning after rinse and help retire bonds after processing.
All of your hair will benefit but you will especially find you get less breakage and the ends won't need cutting as frequently.

My hair is also highlighted and dry at the ends. It would never grow. Since I started having olaplex mixed with the bleach it has made an amazing difference. I now have some decent length on my hair and the condition is much improved. I leave the hairdresser with the olaplex still on and keep it on for another hour when home to get maximum benefit. Well worth the money.

MerricatsHouse · 28/07/2017 11:22

Yep it's definitely worth the money. I've been having my hair lightened gradually to avoid damage and it didn't split or break loads before but Olaplex has allowed it to keep growing without breakage and I don't have to get more than a few mm cut off now, used to need inches (I also straighten almost every day). Has reduced my split ends and keeps my haircut looking in shape longer because less frizzy bits. I also use the Olaplex No 3 at home once a week to keep it going and it makes my hair all nice and swishy, v expensive though!

kittapie · 28/07/2017 20:58

I have to agree with all the ladies here vouching for Olaplaex, it really was a godsend for my heavily bleached hair. They can put it into hair dye too, which I didn't realise. If you have nice hair, why wouldn't you want to protect it? And if you have bad hair, it'll somewhat restore the condition (although it can't work miracles).

treaclesoda · 28/07/2017 21:26

I have booked in for next week. I will report on the results. Thanks all. Smile

For Olaplex- does it work for Afro Caribbean hair, and is it only available via the hairdressers'?

treaclesoda · 07/08/2017 18:54

I had the Olaplex last week.

Sadly I don't feel that it has made any difference to my hair really. But I got a nice wash and blow dry out of it, so it's not a total loss. And on thinking about it, maybe I will feel the benefit in coming weeks when ordinarily I would have been looking at it and thinking that it needs a trim because it is getting dry at the ends. But I'm growing it, so am trying hard to only get it cut when it can't be left any longer.

It does not have an immediate effect. It's something that is noticeable over time. Hairdresser confirmed lots of clients give up on it at first as they don't notice a difference (I didn't either). There is a massive difference now though after over 8months.

treaclesoda · 07/08/2017 22:44

oh, that's interesting. A cumulative effect then?

What bitter said, is it for all hair textures and where can you get it from?

crabbiearses · 08/08/2017 15:32

its fab when you get it done but it makes more of a difference over time , especially if you have coloured or over processed hair.
