Lank, horrible, vile hair that gets greasy so quickly, any miracle products?

My hair is bra strap length, thick (slightly wavy but not in an attractive way) highlighted on top and uncoloured underneath. I really hoped that highlighting it would dry it out, but now the ends are really dry.
I washed it on Saturday and blow-dried, and within minutes the top was greasy and stuck to my forehead.
I've tried silicone free shampoos, shampoos for greasy hair, not washing it for a week at a time, only washing the top, but it's really getting me down.
I've tried loads of dry shampoos as well but they make my face really itchy.
I can wear it down for a day and after that the grease takes over and it's both lank and vile.
I know there's so many more important things to be upset about, and I'm being ridiculous about nothing, but I can't bear to see myself on pictures or look in the mirror.
I'm pre-menopausal as well I think.

What dry shampoos are people using for greasy barnet?

Enb76 · 25/07/2017 14:10

I sometimes use a pea sized amount of the conditioner on the ends but mostly in winter as my hair becomes entirely static. One thing that has happened is that I thought my hair was entirely straight but after about 3 weeks of using the shampoo I developed a slight wave.

I am interested that you are peri menopausal - I am too. However Although my hair used to be like yours I have found as I am getting older and colouring my hair that I prefer using gentler shampoos and conditioners. I was every two or so days.

When younger, I was desperate and got what I thought was a shampoo soap from a chemist not realising it was for nits!!

I mainly avoid dry shampoos except for really desperate days as some are really nasty and I am afraid they may strip colour.

I also avoid any hair style products as theyencourage dirt and grease.

Have you tried apple cider vinegar? I gues you could try it before shampoo so it doesn't pong?

I feel like cutting it really short so I can wash it every day, just like my mum does!
Well, I washed with a 0% silicone shampoo this morning, conditioned the bottom 6 inches and put no serum on at all, just Elnett styling spray, blow dried, straightened and put dry shampoo (Batiste pink one) on straight away, spent a rather sweaty day wandering around shopping, and it's not greasy so far, it usually would be!!! Let's hope this helps. (although my hair doesn't feel very soft)

Mable I use Batiste for Blonde hair (I have highlights). Regular dry shampoos make it look dusty/greyish.
Another tip is to use dry shampoo before bed so it really soaks up grease before topping up in the morning. My hair is longish so I can bung it up in a top knot the next day.

I had a greasy horrible patch at the back of my hair for ages. Fairy liquid got rid of it. It was a build up of silicone. Now I use pantene clarifying shampoo once every few weeks.

burntoutmum · 26/07/2017 22:30

I've recently started using Herbal Essenses Detox, Golden Raspberry. Best shampoo I've ever tried for greasiness and smells lovely too!

Cakescakescakes · 26/07/2017 22:35

Redken Cleansing Cream! Sorts my hormonal pregnancy related waxy greasy hair. Smells lovely too. Use a tiny amount. Miracle worker.

MysticMugBug · 26/07/2017 22:42

I don't use silicones, but I used to and use Queen Bee from lush as a serum after blow drying.

FledglingFTB · 26/07/2017 22:48

Percy & Reed no oil oil, if you're styling your hair. The only dry shampoo that stops me looking like a haystack is the Herbal Essences naked with tapioca, in Poundland atm.

Baalam · 27/07/2017 08:36

Yes and I've started using herbal essences new one with rosemary in it and my hair has never felt so clean!

Hunter007 · 27/07/2017 14:02

Kerastase. The ONLY shampoo that sorted out my barnet. Seems expensive but not compared to buying ten cheaper shampoos that don't work

pinkrocker · 07/08/2017 22:28

Hunter which Kerastase one?
Thank you all so much for replying. I've got load of suggestions now to try.

Pinkrocker - please try teatree Alberto balsam first. They sell it every where even small chemists and it's only £1 a bottle! X

squoosh · 09/08/2017 00:23

I shampoo with good old Vosene once a week to get any product build up out of my hair.

Heebejeebees · 09/08/2017 00:24

Pinkrocker - I use paul Mitchell skinny serum instead of conditioner, pea sized amount on ends of hair, it's a heat protector too.

Paul Mitchell shampoo one is also amazing! But expensive X

Update:
Been using Jersey Cow shampoo by lush, (odd, lumpy texture, but quite nice!) with a v small amount of their milkshake conditioner, followed by Aussie oil.
Drying hair then putting velcro rollers in, rather than straightening it with GHDs. Putting dry shampoo on straight away.
I've been getting 4 days out of this, so a huge thank you to everyone who posted, it has helped me so much!
