I bought this a while ago but have never worn it. I have a wedding this weekend. I don't know the couple very well so don't know how formal their wedding is.
Is this dress ok or is it too close to white/ tea length wedding dresses?
I'm rubbish at this kind of thing and wouid hate to upset someone.
Thanks

I think its lovely and would be fine for a wedding

PollytheDolly · 24/07/2017 21:50

That's very elegant. I love the colour.

dontpokethebear · 24/07/2017 21:51

It is lovely, but very close to looking like a bridesmaid dress. Do you know what colour the bridesmaids dresses are?

Sparkletastic · 24/07/2017 21:51

It's lovely and perfect for a wedding

CremeFresh · 24/07/2017 21:52

Very pretty , perfect for a wedding .

Squ1ggle · 24/07/2017 22:08

Hmmm, personally I feel it's a bit 'bridesmaidy' although it is lovely

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 24/07/2017 22:38

Thanks for your replies.
bear No I don't know what colour the bridesmaids are wearing but I am worried about that.
I wonder if I could accessorise it in a way that wouid make it look less bridesmaidy.

It's beautiful but there is the risk you look like one of the bridal party (or worse, someone who wanted to be in the bridal party...)

How were you thinking of accessorising it?

NCforIS · 24/07/2017 22:47

It's lovely. But agree it looks a little bridesmaidy

PovertyJetset · 24/07/2017 22:49

Unless you're a bridesmaid I don't think it's suitable.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 24/07/2017 22:58

Bugger! I don't have any other dresses that fit since having dd.
Olenna I hadn't gotten that far

My DD is getting married in Aug and the bridesmaids dresses are very, similar to that dress, but long.
You will look like a bridesmaid.

PovertyJetset · 24/07/2017 23:08

What about a stretchy jersey dress from primarni with some great accessories and the right undies?
Cheap and chic.

knowler · 24/07/2017 23:09

I think it's fine and very pretty. Could you wear it with a cropped or bolero style cashmere cardigan/shrug? This would reduce its bridesmaid-look. Then you can ditch it for the reception.

MagnumAddict · 24/07/2017 23:11

Do you have the invite op? Nine times out of ten I find the colours of the invites coordinate with the bridesmaids

GiveMeTheTeaAndNobodyGetsHurt · 24/07/2017 23:15

It's gorgeous! Can you ask the bride or other member of the wedding party what colour the bridesmaids' dresses are? A couple of guests asked me just that question when I was planning my wedding, and although it wouldn't have bothered me if they had matched the colour scheme, I appreciated their asking me.

Accessorise with bright colours to reduce the bridesmaidy effect. Bright red shoes would be stunning with that dress.

burnishedsilver · 25/07/2017 00:41

It's lovely. Wear it.

No matter what you wear there's a chances it will be the same colour/length/style as the bridesmaid dresses. If the bridesmaids are in long navy dresses you'll be kicking yourself for not having worn it.

FagAshMIL · 25/07/2017 00:53

What do you think? If you're doubting it then perhaps no. It's a lovely dress but if you are questioning whether it is too bridal or not then really you have to decide that in your mind it must be otherwise you wouldn't be asking the question. If you think OTHERS are going to judge you on it, whether in reality they actually do or not, you won't feel comfortable.

You decide

MommaGee · 25/07/2017 01:00

Its beautiful.

You'll only look like a bridesmaid if they have similar dresses. I had knee length pink. Step Mom had ankle length maroon. Sister had navy. You wouldn't have looked like a bridesmaid at those wedding iyswim

Second clues in the invite for colours

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 25/07/2017 21:36

Thanks all. The invites are black and white so not much in the way of clues.
The bride and groom are old work friends of dh so I don't know them to ask.

I will ask him to do some fishing though.

I have completely lost any clue of what suits me and looks ok since having dd. Well, even if I don't wear it, the dress was a bargain so I might just keep it in the wardrobe and stroke it occasionally.

Lovely with a nice facinator

MistyMinge · 25/07/2017 21:55

I think it's a lovely dress. If you like it and feel confident in it then wear it.

The chances are the bridesmaids will be in a different colour and I very much doubt any one will think you're part of the wedding party.

Ladyformation · 26/07/2017 09:30

Absolutely lovely. Definitely wear it.

breakabletoy · 26/07/2017 11:14

Way too bridesmaidy as it is, and even a bit bridal with the sheer flared skirt and light colour combo. I'd find something similar in a floral or other pattern, or go for a more streamlined silhouette.

I was at a wedding a few weeks ago and there was a guest wearing an ankle length grecian style summer dress in light peach. In the shop you'd never look at it and think "bridal party", but somehow in the context of being in the church it took on those connotations. I kept seeing her and thinking "oh, a bridesmaid/bride has wandered over here from another wedding" before realising it was just her, another guest. It was jarring.

Best to err on the side of caution with wedding outfits I think.
