Treatment for brittle, dry hair?

Anyone come across an amazing product that would help my brittle, dry, curly/wavy, dyed hair?

Seen several overnight conditioning treatments and hair masks but do they actually work?

I already use anti frizz type conditioners specifically for curly hair, and even re-apply on ends after washing. But I need something more!

Have you cut out all silicones and sulphate from your hair products?

I use olive oil gel for my curly hair and the "plopping" method. Once dry I scrunch out the crunch with some conditioner

I gave it a bit of a go FunkyBarnYardBroom . First of all the sulphate/silicone free shampoo/conditioner did nothing for my hair, made it just look lifeless. Couldn't wait to get back to my John Frieda Frizz Ease shampoo/conditioner to be honest. Splashed out on the Deva Curl supercream all the curly girls were raving on about - made my hair look awful. Only change I made that did make a positive difference was using a microfibre towel.

Don't really like the idea of using gel on my hair either but have thought about using olive oil overnight!

Holland & Barrett sell small (50g) jars of VidaCoca (sp) Coconut oil, I use a thumbnail scoop, warm it in my hand and apply.
Then - oh the glamour- a waterproof showercap overnight. The warmth of my sweaty little head helps to absorb it.

I can't get on with Argan oil/olive/almond.
I need to make sure the coconut is only on my hair not my scalp or it makes my scalp lumpy

Have you tried any argan oil products, OP? I've found that conditioner is good for my hair (though I need to rinse it really well to avoid looking all lank), but shampoo is no good

My hair is very coarse and I've battled for years with it before finding out about the protein/moisture balance

Basically you test what your hair needs using this method:
Take a strand of your hair, wet it with water, then gently stretch it. if it returns to it's original length without breaking, you have properly balanced moisture/protein levels. Yay! However, if it stretches more than it should and breaks, you probably need protein. If it doesn't stretch much, you need moisture.

My favourite protein mask is the extreme mask from redken, and if in need of moisture I use Philip Kingsley' elasticiser preshampoo treatment and an aloe Vera conditioner with no proteins after.

Do each for a few washes and hair's back to normal

Macadamia deep conditioning hair masque is awesome

Aveda damage remedy.

Thanks for suggestions, will have a look at all of them.

marinathehungina I did this test a short while ago and my hair snapped. However, I thought this meant that my hair was protein sensitive i.e. I should avoid protein? Confused

I've heard great things about oplex hair treatment no 3.
I'm ordering it from amazon in a min.
My hairdresser said to leave it on overnight (with a shower cap on).

Yes avoid anything with Keratin in like the plague if your hair is brittle.

I second Elaticizer, it's designed for hair like yours.

If you're not worried about silicones (my hair looks much better coated in the stuff!) try Pantene intensive masks; Repair and Protect is good.
L'Oreal Extraordinary oil rubbed through towel dried hair gives amazing results too.

I put pure argan oil on mine form Neal's yard. Not too much, just comb it through and leave for the day. Then wash before bed. Lovely swishy hair.

The oplex hair treatment no 3 does look really goodHouseworkavoider thank-you!

I'm also a fan of silicones ILostItInTheEarlyNineties Blush despite all the negativity.

Come to think of it, I did use some of my sister's Philip Kingsley elasticiser stuff when we were on holiday together and I did love it. Forgot all about it.

Some great suggestions!

I like silicones too Grin The main problem is that silicones can build up in your hair over time but I find using a clarifying shampoo once a week prevents that.

My husband buys me a big tub of the Elaticizer every Christmas. It's one of my favourite presents!
