Having a wobble about holiday

Itscurtainsforyou · 21/07/2017 20:55

I'd intended to lose weight for holiday (next week!) but have had lots of health issues so it's not happened.

I'm quite philosophical thinking it's about having a good time, never mind what I look like, but today tried on swimwear and I look awful! Worst bits are huge arse, big tummy overhang and very flabby inner thighs. Almost half of the holiday will be around the pool/beach/ water parks, so I'm now filled with dread.

I bought some long swim shorts today but think they just draw attention to me!

Any tips/words of wisdom etc?

I think long shorts probably will draw attention to you. You'd be better in a regular swimming costume. There will be people of all shapes and sizes and you really won't stand out.

Maybe a sarong/wrap thing might be better if you'd like to cover up without attracting attention.

Forgot to say, have a fantastic time and everyone cares less about what they look like after cocktails with little umbrellas in. Smile

SerfTerf · 21/07/2017 21:02

What dress size and what overall shape? (Pear, apple etc)

We'll help you. So many lovely sales on ATM Smile

Itscurtainsforyou · 21/07/2017 21:21

Thank you - you're probably right.

I'm pear shaped, size 20 I think, but have a long torso so struggle to buy swimwear generally - I have a nice Slazenger swimsuit for pool swimming so I guess I could wear that

Monsoon have these rather marvellous sarong-trouser hybrid things that look like a great invention;

Honestly, nobody will take a second glance at you. There are people of all different shapes and sizes at pools and water parks and they're too busy having fun than to notice others.

SerfTerf · 21/07/2017 21:35

How about sleek, but extravagantly boylegged with a bit of an optical illusion?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01MTGLDPG/ref=mpssa1113?ie=UTF8&qid=1500669191&sr=8-13&pi=ACSX2366SY340QL65&keywords=boyleg+swimsuits+for+women

Separate shorts or skirted costumes just risk adding bulk and drawing the eye, somehow.

Get a great body shaping swimsuit, take a sarong & a fab pair of sunnies & shoes & work it. Emphasise the assets - boobs, hair & a fabulous eyeliner & lippie - think Adele - drink white wine & have a brilliant holiday being the best you that you are now xxx

Shannaratiger · 21/07/2017 21:36

Same here, but decided at the last minute 'sod it' and brought a bikini as well as the 2 tankinis.

SinglePringle · 21/07/2017 21:37

Wear. A fucking. Bikini.

The most attractive woman I ever saw on a beach was an easy, easy size 24. And a bit short.

I could not take my eyes off her.

Cracking bikini, awesome kaftan (open), great tan, BIG hair, good accessories.

She was hot.

Take. The. Shorts. Back. (Them Europeans are far far more 'give a fuck, it's hot!')

camtt · 21/07/2017 21:39

friend recently got a new swimsuit at Bravissimo and said they did a great job finding her things that suited her figure, maybe try them if there is a branch nearby?

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 21/07/2017 21:40

I discovered that simply b do swimsuits for longer bodies, means swimsuit not up your arse- bliss!

QODRestYeMerryGentlemen · 21/07/2017 21:42

Probably too late now but I've bought stuff off modlily
I'm a 14/16 with a giant belly.

Lizzylou · 21/07/2017 22:06

What singlepringle said, honestly.
I think these board shorts/high waisted bikini bottoms/swim skirts/tankinis make women look bigger. Own it, have confidence.

carrie74 · 21/07/2017 23:03

Yup, fear not what others think, they're much more hung up with themselves than you. Wear what you want, enjoy your holiday.

DontFuckingSayIt · 21/07/2017 23:08

I wore control pants under my swimsuit on holiday this year. Felt loads better about myself (also size 20). Also find proper bust support and a bit of a tan helps!

silkpyjamasallday · 21/07/2017 23:09

If you have one swimsuit that you like, take that with you shopping for more like it, you can hold it up against other styles to compare the cut, if it seems similar in shape try it on. I do this with bikini bottoms as I need them to be full enough to not end up looking like my ample arse really needed a bikini to snack on.

Honestly there are people of all shapes and sizes in swimwear on holiday and the ones enjoying themselves will be of the don't give a fuck variety of person, try and get that attitude and you'll be off to a good start.

Itscurtainsforyou · 22/07/2017 00:39

Thanks all - I feel a bit better now.

I'm going to see if I can find a decent bikini/tankini Smile

Welcome to my world and a lot of other people's! There will be all sorts of shapes and sights there you know. Don't worry about it and have a lovely time!

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 25/07/2017 19:02

From my holiday experience, women of all shapes & sizes look best in appropriate swimwear - swimsuit / tankini / bikini. I find myself looking at the ones who are wearing a kaftan / sarong / dress in or round the pool and wondering why. Just go with the swimwear, women come in all shapes & sizes & you'll be just fine. You don't see men worrying about their wobbly bits!
