Child with really bad dandruff what shampoo??

PinkBlossomTree · 20/07/2017 21:12

Has anyone got any tried and tested recommendations for a really good dandruff shampoo?

Just washed dds hair who is 9 and it was so awful I had to rewash it thinking it was shampoo left in. But after a second really good wash with a very long time rinsing it's just as bad,

I've use some brown tgel since I was a child on my flaky scalp and it works for me. Smell is and acquired taste though!

T-gel? Coal tar shampoo? I read that leaving the shampoo in for 5 mins before rinsing is more effective.
TBH my dd's dandruff is much improved after washing every other day.

waltzingparrot · 20/07/2017 23:06

If it's really bad, you may need to get something from the gp. I've just taken DS to the doc and was given something that has practically cleared it up by the second wash and we've spent lots of time and money trying all the OTC shampoos inc TGel.

Malapropist · 20/07/2017 23:07

waltzing may I ask what it was that cleared it up?

MrsBungle · 20/07/2017 23:07

I use vosene kids anti-dandruff on dd's hair. Works a treat.

ivytable · 20/07/2017 23:07

Nizoral

AfunaMbatata · 20/07/2017 23:08

L'Oréal anti dandruff for men, the one in the black and orange bottle. Works like a miracle!

Therealslimshady1 · 20/07/2017 23:09

Nizoral

Iwannasnack · 20/07/2017 23:10

Definitely Nizoral. Bet that's what the gp prescribed too

Almostthere15 · 21/07/2017 07:30

Vosene do a kids range which works well but I've used shampure by aveda too with some success which is much more pleasant to get a whiff of

It's definitely dandruff and not nits? Nits could look like dandruff with the horrid white flaky bits. I just wondered when you said you could still see it after washing.

Sonotkylie · 21/07/2017 11:11

T-gel sensitive sorted DS. Vosene didn't make any difference at all. Others made his hair dry or sticky. Gentle shampoo and more frequent washing seemed to work best

rubybleu · 21/07/2017 12:02

Definitely Nizoral. I have sebhorreic dermatitis and have tried all of the "kinder" shampoos (Moogoo, Bioderma Node, Phillip Kingsley Flaky Itchy Scalp) and this is the only shampoo that has worked. It's £5 on Amazon, no prescription required although your GP will prescribe if you want it.

youvegottobekidding · 22/07/2017 17:32

Dermax, available on prescription, DD's dermatologist recommended it.

LockedOutOfMN · 22/07/2017 17:55

Ginger shampoo from the Body Shop

PinkBlossomTree · 22/07/2017 21:02

Thanks for all the replies I'm going to check them all out. Will most likely get the Amazon one as saves a GP appointment. At least I have 6 weeks to treat it.

Definitely not nits, had nits a few times now and it's fluffier and different to nits.

GP is a Pita as they keep de registering her as apart from baby jabs has never been. That's a whole other thread tho.

I bought the Body Shop ginger shampoo after seeing recommended on here and it's worked a treat on DD's flaky scalp. You used to be able to see all the white bits in her hair.
I used a different shampoo on her a few times earlier this month and she said her scalp was itchy and she had a sore patch so went back to the ginger one and it cleared up within a couple of days.

Itsnothingoriginal · 23/07/2017 20:31

Yy Body Shop ginger shampoo. We all use it in our house!

MoodyMumOfOne · 23/07/2017 20:46

accidentalgrownup · 23/07/2017 20:53
