Ear piercing going under the skin

I got 2 lobe piercings done on each ear in Claires a couple of weeks ago (bad choice I know) and for the past week one of the studs keeps going under the skin when I'm asleep. It's only ever when I'm asleep and when I wake up I have to push it back through the skin which isn't pleasant.

I've been cleaning the piercings twice a day with hot salted water and I'm not having any luck. The ear that it keeps happening to is swollen which means that the earring is snug in my ear, and the fact that this keeps happening means that the ear is remaining swollen.

What can I do to stop this happening? If this keeps happening all of the time then the piercing is never going to heal.

The earring post will be too short to allow for swelling - the earrings Claire's uses are all one size, so won't always be suitable for someone with a slightly thicker earlobe.

Go to a local tattoo/piercing studio and ask the piercer to change the earring for a barbell that has enough length on it to accommodate the swelling. Preferably, ask them to change both earrings. The cost is dependent on the studio, but if you don't want to lose the piercings, this is the best course of action.

@BeautyGoesToBenidorm Thanks for the reply. I thought this would probably be the answer but I'm not looking forward to someone changing piercings in a sore ear.

Honestly, you'll be fine - whenever I've had to do this for customers in similar situations to you, I've used an insertion taper - it looks like a thin, blunt needle - to put the new jewellery in to make the change as smooth and painless as possible. The relief will probably be instant, if your lobe is swollen! Good luck Smile

Usually, a minor infection of an ear piercing can be treated successfully at home. But if the infection doesn’t improve with home treatment within two days, its best to see a doctor.
Replace the earring if it is made of nickel or another cheaper metal. If you believe this could be an issue, change the earring to one with a gold or hypoallergenic stud.
Wash your hands with warm water and soap before handling your newly pierced ears or your earrings.
Soak a cotton ball in warm salt water, and hold it against your hole for several minutes to loosen any crust that is causing pain or difficulty when you try to rotate your earring.
Apply hydrogen peroxide to both sides of your earlobe twice each day with a clean cotton swab. Continue until your hole is completely healed.
Sleep on your back to prevent irritation during the night. Sleeping on your side increases the likelihood that your earrings will become caught on your sheets or blanket. If they become caught, they may pull out of your ears and increase pain and inflammation. Change your sheets and pillowcase every night during the first week or two of recovery.
Wishing a speedy healing!
