Taking off make up as soon as you get in from work?

For years, I have longed to be the kind of organised, well rested person who has a careful skincare routine before slipping into bed. Sadly, I stay up far too late doing jobs and looking after everyone else etc, then fall in to bed in my make up. Hmm

However, I think I've had a revelation - does anyone do their evening routine as soon as they get in from work?!

Not when I get in, but straight after I put the (small) DCs to bed. I do it before I go back downstairs for supper, TV etc so I can just slope off to bed later

shamoffour · 16/07/2017 20:27

I'm a sahm but I do it earlier as I'm too tired/lazy to do it before bed. I usually do it at 7 when my youngest two have gone to bed.

bingohandjob · 16/07/2017 20:34

Yes, pretty much. I have an hour power walk home so take off make up and get changed because I try to work up a sweat! I shower in the mornings as it wakes me up.
It feels good - mentally switch off from work, and know it sounds silly but when I do it when I'm sleepy it wakes me up!

Yes, do it when I get in - say night to kids, do my peak flow readings and wash my face. Otherwise I dont bother.

Lanaa · 16/07/2017 20:53

Yes! I started this a couple of months ago.
Before I was so tired after work, doing dinner and household stuff that I'd usually fall asleep on the sofa with my makeup on and contacts on.

Now I go straight upstairs, bra off and makeup off. I try and do a face mask daily too. It's really improved my skin.

Judydreamsofhorses · 16/07/2017 21:24

Yes, always - get in from work at 5.30ish, and by 6.30 I am in "lounge wear", glasses and no makeup.

LostInShoebiz · 16/07/2017 21:52

Yes! I was always too rushed before bed but I saw doing as soon as you come in recommended by Caroline Hirons and I've seen a big improvement since.

Going to go against the grain here and say no I don't do this. I always take my makeup off before bed.

My routine is take makeup off, brush teeth, wash face, cleanse, moisturise and then bed.

I find this routine suits me and works well for me.

BuzzKillington · 16/07/2017 23:22

I do.

I double cleanse when I get home, whether that's at 12 or 5pm. I find I cant be arsed if I leave it until bedtime.

Julygal · 16/07/2017 23:29

Yes! We have a 'competition' with the kids and sing we've got our pyjamas on! they're now 14 and 11 😂 love the contacts out and make up off routine. Think the earliest we achieved was 4.20!! Ensures I take my make up off. Then it's just teeth brushing before bed.

PlanningaMiracle · 17/07/2017 07:10

I'm going to start tonight! Grin

I start my kids bedtime at about 7.30 and do my own routine then. Contacts out, face washed, teeth etc. Also I frequently fall asleep next to one of them, so it helps if I have already got ready for bed.

MinesaPinot · 17/07/2017 09:18

Yes, I do. I commute to London and always feel grimy when I get in, so cleansing and feeling fresh faced when I get in makes me feel much better. Leave teeth cleaning until just before bed though.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 17/07/2017 09:48

Yes, I do contacts and wash face/put on night time products when I get in. Then when I want to go to bed all I have to do is brush my teeth. It's partly a laziness thing, but also I think it's good to let my skin start to breathe/products start to work as early as possible, and give my eyes a rest.

HappyEverIftar · 17/07/2017 11:35

I can't wait to take my make up off at the end of the day, so perhaps I'm not best placed to answer this impartially! I shower when I get in, make up off, pjs on, then I feel I can relax Smile.

MyHairNeedsASnip · 17/07/2017 11:41

Yes, i go around fresh faced and squeaky clean then put my moisturiser on about an hour before bed then it has a chance to sink in before bed

MyHairNeedsASnip · 17/07/2017 11:42

Too many 'before bed's' in that sentence Hmm

MaximaDeWit · 17/07/2017 15:36

I do it while DS is in the bath

GhostCurry · 17/07/2017 21:16

I always want to do this, but resist, because (please don't shout at me) I look crap without makeup and if I did this, my husband would basically never see me looking nice.
He absolutely disagrees by the way, but my skin is bad and it feels like a shame to always be looking my worst when spending the evening with him Blush

ForFSake · 18/07/2017 09:58

Yup, most of the time. if I know I'm not going back out then I get in, go up, take make up off with a facewipe, shower, wash face in shower and then when out I cleanse with a nip and fab dragon's blood pad, moisturise, put any spot cream on etc and voila. Done.

It also means at 10pm I can just go upstairs, clean my teeth and get straight into bed.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 18/07/2017 10:12

Not as soon as I get in, no, but I do it halfway through the evening. Say I'm having a bath or something, I'll cleanse my face (jojoba oil & a muslin) then apply my skincare gubbins. In my mind, it then has time to sink in by the time bed time comes and won't come off on my pillow instead of going into my skin. If not having a bath, I'll do it when I go upstairs to put my pj's/'loungewear' on.

My skin is pretty good, so tbh, it's just a case of taking off the mascara and sunscreen layers. I'm not bothered about DH seeing my 'natural' face. I'm mostly a minimal make up person, anyway, so the difference isn't that stark. Plus, my skincare routine doesn't leave any residue (comedy cold cream masks a la Mrs Doubtfire etc), so it's perfectly fine for evenings in front of the tv or answering the odd doorbell.
