Best non cosmetic dentistry teeth whitening?

Saw a photo of myself this week and I'm horrified at how dingy my teeth look. I use a whitening toothpaste (Colgate) but I also drink lots of coffee so I guess that cancels it out. I can't afford the hundreds I've been quoted at the dentist so I'm looking for reasonably priced, safe alternatives that work. What's everyone's recommendations?

TIA

How much can you afford?

Brushing teeth with Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate at east 5 days a week helps to keep the teeth white. My brother-in-law is a chain smoker but his teeth are so white because he always brushes with baking soda. I do it my self about twice a week, its a little salty though.Grin

Eucerin tooth powder from amazon. It is amazing. Don't use it too often.

More frequent visits to the hygienist says every 3 months? I have Airflow treatment every 6 mths which does make a difference - pressurised water plus bicarb of soda offered by my usual dentist as a private treatment.

I used crest whitestrips some years ago. really work, but I recommend using them 1x day not 2x, and always before brushing not after.

I had diamondwhites whitening done today - you bite in a mouth guard with gel in it and they apply a blue LED light.

He judged my 'starting' colour by my yellowest teeth - lower canines - and to be fair, they have been whitened by about six shades.

He did make a big fuss about how white my teeth were to start with though, and I think maybe this was to lower my expectations... I had booked an hour (£79) but he said there wasn't any point in having more than half an hour (£34.50) because of my starting colour being so white.

I can't say if I'm thrilled with the outcome yet because have always had good results with gels I bought in America for considerably less - however these left me with sensitivity and shooting pains in my teeth, which diamondwhites didn't do.

Could be an option? You might see more improvement if you aren't such a regular whitener!Smile
