Congested skin on teenager - any ideas?

KoalaDownUnder · 15/07/2017 15:52

I want to buy my beautiful 16-year-old niece some skin care. (She's asked - I'm not interfering. Smile)

She has oily skin with lots of small bumps under the skin on her forehead and cheeks.

Does anyone have any tried-and-true skin care products that might help, please? Perhaps something your own teen has used? TIA. Smile

The three step la Roche Posay has been the best thing for my skin

I'm not a teenager though but had always had spots until using this

Gullane · 15/07/2017 17:07

For a spot, Freederm. Extraordinary stuff.

HectorAndKiki · 15/07/2017 21:08

Agree with Chish La Roche Posay 3 step has transformed my DD (18) skin.

DistanceCall · 15/07/2017 21:53

Agree on La Roche Posay. Avène's Cleanance range is also very good.

Wanttotry2017 · 15/07/2017 22:48

Where do you buy la Roche possy??? DO John Lewis do it?

HectorAndKiki · 15/07/2017 23:19

Boots sell it koala

PastaPosha · 15/07/2017 23:23

I've just found it on boots and it says they have sold out and will not be getting more stock in Shock. Is it the anti blemish 3 step?

ScrumDinger · 15/07/2017 23:27

Escentual is a good place to buy La Roche Posay products (and all the other French pharmacy brands). They often do 1/3 off too.

OP maybe a gentle glycolic acid product might be good for zapping spots too.

bunnybleu · 15/07/2017 23:49

I bought my DS the Dermalogica Clear Start kit a couple of weeks ago and we've seen a big difference in his skin.

ChishandFips33 · 16/07/2017 00:00

Superdrug sell LRP too now Smile

ChishandFips33 · 16/07/2017 00:01

That's good to know Scrum
It often pops up on my searches but I've never bought from them with not knowing their reputation

Ragusa · 16/07/2017 00:05

Glycolic all the way. I can recommend alpha 12% enhanced rejuvenating cream. You can get it from US amazon. It has transformed my oily bumpy zitty skin.

ScrumDinger · 16/07/2017 00:12

Escentual are great Chish. Totally legit and really competitive.

ScrumDinger · 16/07/2017 00:13

Actually I've just checked and they've a 1/3 off promotion on at the moment! Smile

The only way to truly sort it out is to overhaul her diet- anything else is like just plastering over the cracks

ScrumDinger · 16/07/2017 00:22

Not necessarily. It could be down to hormone levels and sometimes all that's needed is a little glycolic acid.

KoalaDownUnder · 16/07/2017 01:47

Thank you so much, everyone! I'll look into some of these. Smile

KoalaDownUnder · 16/07/2017 02:23

Her diet is not great, tbh, although she still manages to be model-slim with it. Envy

Her GP recommended the pill to regulate her hormones, but her mum apparently vetoed that.

I've that sort of skin (at 41 Sad )

La Roche Posayis the only think that works for me (though I only do 2 steps what's the 3rd!? How have I missed it!!?)

Like a wally I thought i could stop and use any old cleanser and my skin went awful again.

Just a note for your niece if she does use it when I first used it (both times!) My skin effectively 'purge. Hideous painful spots appeared - took about a month for them to go (gradually improving over the month but still appearing).

Back with it 8 weeks now. Looks way better now and I'm totally good and feel good aboit my skin and go about with no make up to badly hide behind.

anchor9 · 16/07/2017 04:34

YES to glycolic acid. i use cane and austin. incredible stuff!

user1498328475 · 16/07/2017 08:50

Another recommendation for La Roche Posay effaclar face wash and effaclar duo cream. I'm 52 with hormonal outbreaks and this is brilliant. I only do 2 steps (don't know what the 3rd is). It's simple and works. Buy in Boots or some chemists or online.

user1498328475 · 16/07/2017 08:52

Forgot to add it has cleared bumps, unplugged blackheads and even out skin tone, skin is lovely and soft and comfortable.

Ragusa · 16/07/2017 10:25

It is generally nothing to do with diet. I spent many frustrated years being told itmy bad skin was something to do with what I ate. Wrong, and later rubbished by a dermatologist. Unless you have allergies. It's to do with hormones, bacterial colonisation, genes, how much sebum your skin produces, etc.
