Pores and foundation

NarcsBegone · 15/07/2017 14:38

I am really struggling with large pores and my foundation sitting in them. I've tried powder, liquid, cream, Bb cream, loads of different primers with all the different foundations, the various pore filling things like porefessional, I've tried sponges both damp and dry, brushes fat and thin and fingers. My skin care is good, I double cleanse, tone, moisturise, use oils, serums, exfoliate, use gyclolic stuff. Everything sits in my pores, creases and now my facial hair is an issue too all over my face. I'm only 38 Sad.
I've tried the method where you apply powder first, buff in different directions, don't buff, tap, swipe, don't swipe, thin layers, thick layers, 'forcing' it into the pores, applying as usual then spending an hour with a cotton bud trying to dab away at the worst areas. I have foundations and primers from rimmel, Poundland, Avon, benefit, Lancôme, Estée Lauder, natural skincare, no7, and Nivea. There must be something out there, there must be others that have this and have found a way other than just braving the look and hoping people don't get too close??? Any advice will be really gratefully received ... it may be ive just got the techniques wrong? I am very oily on my tzone and usually get matt foundations and wondering if that could be an issue now as I think the creasing around my cheeks/sides of mouth are looking dry.

Hi I have the same problem my t zone is so oily and the pores on my nose are enormous!
I use milk if magnesia on my t zone after moisturiser, I put it on a cotton pad and put a couple of thin layers on and let it dry in, then gently wiping away a little of it until left with a dusty white layer. I then put my foundation over the top using a beauty blender and "push" my foundation in.
I tried for years to find something that works and this is amazing! No pores and keeps my oil away all day I don't need to touch up at all! Have a look on YouTube for videos on it.
I have to say though its got to be the original flavour not the mint. At the moment you can only get the mint flavour in the UK coz apparently the original has been banned by the EU for having too much of something in it I can't remember what though, so I had to get more from America from a company called iHerb and they delivered it within a week they were so fast. I tried the mint flavour but it just didn't work the same.
Ive read that they are working on taking whatever it was that the EU said was banned out of it and it would be available over here soon.
Honestly try it its the only thing that works on my pores and oily skin.

NarcsBegone · 15/07/2017 21:08

Always thank you!!! That is is exactly the sort of thing that just might work. I'm willing to try anything at this point Smile I'll take a look at that site.

No thats the mint flavour one if u look under the where it says magnesium hydroxide it says traditional mint flavour. The original is more of a square bottle, I tried to order from Amazon but it was from a third party seller and took weeks and weeks to come but did eventually I had forgotten about that

alwaysstressed · 15/07/2017 21:32

This is it!

Ridingthegravytrain · 15/07/2017 21:34

What happens if you use the mint one?

alwaysstressed · 15/07/2017 21:35

Its more expensive coz its so hard to get now and sellers are hiking the price up. It was cheaper from American but I think once I added international delivery it was much about the same. I was so desperate for it though id have paid anything! Lol

alwaysstressed · 15/07/2017 21:44

The mint one just didn't work the same it didn't dry into a chalky layer must be something to do with the mint in it who knows but it didn't even work a little bit defo need the original

NarcsBegone · 15/07/2017 22:51

Oh I didn't see the really pale writing 😐.

Iherb are out of stock but I've put in for a notification. Still up for any other suggestion Smile

Have you tried benefit porefessional?

Squashit · 15/07/2017 23:19

Just use Maybelline dream matte mousse foundation. It skims right over the feckers and doesn't sit heavy or separate.

No primer or any other such nonsense required either with this. Best foundation ever.

tigerdriverII · 15/07/2017 23:22

Mineral foundation? I have a cheap one, it's fab, just slap on some moisturiser, leave it a moment and brush on

Nicketynac · 15/07/2017 23:28

I have been using Azelaic Acid from the Ordinary which doubles as a primer, then Biore Milky Fluid (can't live without my SPF),then Missha Perfect Cover BB cream. I can put remember the name of the powder I use but it was Mumsnet recommended and was another Korean purchase via eBay. I do need to re-blend mid afternoon and the BB cream is quite light coverage but it works for me.
I quite liked Smashbox light primer but it wasn't the best for oil control.
I agree with you that matte foundations can accentuate problems.

Nicketynac · 15/07/2017 23:38

The powder is innisfree No-sebum mineral powder. It's more for oil control but doesn't sit in my pores. It is white but very fine and blends right in

clickhappy · 15/07/2017 23:46

I use Paula's choice BHA. it took 2 months but pores much smaller and blackheads gone. It takes time. I used it 2x day and now only once at night.

NarcsBegone · 16/07/2017 12:08

Yes used porefessional and things like it.
I'll try the dream matte and hope 😊
Nicke I'll look into all of that , thanks!
Click I'll look into that too. I've spent a fortune and it's getting silly now so this is my last bash and then I'll just be a shiny large pored bad complexioned middle aged person and suck it up!

I LOVE innisfree no sebum powder, it definitely makes pores look smaller, and doesn't sit in them like tinted powders can do. I press it into my t zone with my damp beauty blender, leave for a couple of minutes, then dust off, sweeping the brush all over my face, to set the rest of my make up.
Sometimes I spritz a bit of mac fix+ afterwards, if I've gone overboard with the powder.
I also agree with the BHA/AHA to reduce the sizes of pores. I love nip and fab pads, Cosrx blackhead power liquid, and the Ordinary's retinoid 2%.
All have reduced my middle aged crater pores.

XiCi · 16/07/2017 15:24

WRT the facial hair have you tried dermaplaning? You basically use a very small facial razor which takes off all the fine hairs on the face and also exfoliates. You end up with really smooth skin. I've been doing this for over a year now and would never go back to waxing. There's loads of tutorial videos on YouTube.
I use these

BagelGoesWalking · 16/07/2017 15:44

You should definitely try to tackle the large pores rather than the coverage.

I've been using the Hyaluronic Acid and Buffet from The Ordinary for under 3 weeks and I realised about a week ago that I couldn't see any pores in my nose anymore! I didn't have huge ones, but they've definitely diminished.

Have a look at the range. You can email [email protected] with your skin issues and they'll give you a suggested regime. If you decide to use, don't be tempted to overload with products (it's very tempting as they're so cheap!). They also do a Primer which is supposed to be good for enlarged pores.

XiCi · 16/07/2017 16:01

What is Buffet bagel
I've had a couple of things from the Ordinary and am left feeling very underwhelmed. The Retinol is the only thing I have repurchased

BagelGoesWalking · 16/07/2017 16:10

This one. One of their few products which is a mix of things. For anti ageing, smooth texture and full of peptide goodies.

This is a good guide to all their products.

Puffpaw · 16/07/2017 16:44

You need a good serum hylauronic acid, plump up the lines and stop your pores producing sebum overtime. I use la Roche posay hydraphase serum and moisturiser. Hot cloth cleanse with Clinique ttdo. I used to have the same problems as you, but no more. Before I was using cleansing products which were too harsh and drying for my skin. My skin reacted by becoming oily. Now no oil and minimal lines.

Beautifullymixed · 16/07/2017 16:49

Also, definitely agree with the hyaluronic serum. A must for me.
Used with the acids and retinoid that I mentioned above, my pores have diminished.
I adore Hada labo premium hyaluronic serum, and also love their sheet masks too. Skin is left so, so smooth, and doesn't need to produce so much oil.
Lines are plumped, and make up goes on beautifully. Dry patches are banished too.

Combat this first, then less pores to fill in with make up/primer/powder. Smile

BagelGoesWalking · 16/07/2017 18:04

Yes, I recommend the la Roche posay hydraphase serum as well. That the one I've been using (I realise that my previous post made it sound like it was the Ordinary one)

I put it on damp skin and it makes my skin feel so soft. Then Buffet. Then sometimes LRP Toleriane moisturiser but I don't always need it.
