Manage to dye my hair salt and pepper so transitioning from dark will be a breeze.

Just thought I would share that at last I have had a result in getting a hair dye to turn out the colour I wanted.

I started out with dark reddish hair and needed to bleach it twice to get it pale enough. There was still a bit of a warm hue to the ends but I thought I would chance it and wanged that grey hair dye from Superdrug over the top and it has bloody worked!

I do have a really short Serberg pixie but I was having to dye my hair every bloody week such was the contrast. Now it is a mix of greys so looks salt and pepper which will make this whole process a breeze without the obvious badger.

I really suit grey too- so much more than redder colours. Anyway it might work for others wanting to go natural so thought it worth passing on. I used Graphite grey.

I've done this recently as well! So fed up of the dying cycle and so I did 2 bleaches and have been using Herman's granny hair dyes. They are temporary dyes though, so need redoing regularly and have quite a purple/blue tinge to them! I'm fine with this - quite like it actually! - but I know not it's not for everyone.
I had looked at the superdrug one, would be great not to have the 'fade' thing happening (when it starts to take on a greenish tinge!) Think if it's worked for you I may get some to try out- thanks for posting!
Quick question- how pale did you get your hair before using it? I suspect that ideally I should bleach mine again (when it fades it has a beigish/greenish tinge). I'm not sure my hair's up to another bleaching though so would be good if I could cover it with some of the Superdrug stuff!

My hair wouldn't stand another bleaching and this dye covered over the brassy yellow veering towards pale apricot left after red dyes stained the hair. Obviously the lighter you can go the better but this one has enough pigment to turn a good grey. It is certainly good enough in order to make the going natural thing bearable.

I am going to buy some Provoke shampoo /conditioner to keep it tinted grey enough and let it be now. I personally don't have the stomach for a head shave or months of badger strip. All power to you if you do but that is not for me.

Sounds like it could definitely work for mine, that's about the lift I've achieved, I've ordered some to try out!.
It's so much easier to grow the grey out when you're not dark brown anymore isn't it? It doesn't 'match' exactly what's coming through but at least it's the right tone now!
This is mine freshly done.

Thank you, although in real life it does look far more patchy Blush

Shaka, that looks great
I have black hair with some brown tones, not sure what to do. I am going to want to transition at some point, I already have grey around the temples and it's a pain. I don't want to spend several years dyeing it but at the moment if I leave it, it just looks odd.

Shakalakabingbong · 16/07/2017 19:11

Mine was very dark brown - practically black on the ends because I was rubbish at dying and just used to do the whole lot at once! It was so noticeable growing through- my grey hair is really sparkly and vibrant, which'll look great when it grows through, but really clashed with my deep brown.
I can defintely recommend bleaching and dying grey- with so many grey dyes available now I think it's pretty easily done and it just tones everything the right sort of colour so the grow out is far less traumatic! Good luck if you go for it.

Slimthistime · 16/07/2017 19:15

Oh so that's a dark grey hair dye?
Sorry I know nothing about this.

Cocolepew · 16/07/2017 19:17

I've gone grey (again Hmm), its still a bit darker in places but I'm trying to stay away from the bleach.
I bought silver hair wax from Amazon and put it in to lighten it up a bit , I have very short hair so it's easy enough to do.
It just washes out again.

Shakalakabingbong · 16/07/2017 19:20

Yes it is Smile my hair was very dark (and overdyed) so I bleached it twice and then used Herman's Gilda granny grey which is a temporary colour. Squashit (upthread) used a superdug one called graphite grey, which is permenent, after bleaching twice so I've ordered some of that to try next. Hopefully that will mean I don't have to keep using the Herman's as it does fade very quickly and I end up a bit patchy looking!

Slimthistime · 16/07/2017 19:26

Thanks Shaka

Shakalakabingbong · 16/07/2017 19:31

Oh Cocolepew- I've not heard of that, what brand do you use? I'm running out of wax so a silver one would be great for my next purchase!

Cocolepew · 16/07/2017 22:03

It was this one Smile
