Any beauticians out there- Does sound right?

I had laser treatment on some thread veins last Thursday. The beautician couldn't find my previous notes so I had to fill in another form I asked if I would still get my half hour appt. time and she was non commital (I had been advised on phone it was half an hour) then asked if I was in a rush so I said, no just wanted to ensure I had my time given I had to refill all the forms. When I lay down, she started asked about Rosceaca which I clearly don't have. She didn't seem to know why I was there. I explained I had some done last August but some had come back so I wanted them treated.

She then said something about areas and I pointed out areas I was most concerned on my face . However, being white Irish, I'm pretty much a roadmap of veins. I said if we were to do my legs, it would take all day and she laughed. Confused

The treatment was very very painful, tears were coming out of my eyes, I was digging my nails into my hand and my body jerked when she put the laser to my skin. I said 'its very painful'. It wasn't like this the first time I had it done, which still painful but bearable. This was excruciating. She did not adjust the levels, just carried on.

After about ten minutes she said that's enough for today, went to get some cold gel packs. She asked if I wanted concealer so I said yes and she applied concealer to my chest area. That was it. I was pretty much bundled out of the room to pay and I expressed surprise at how short the session was compared to last time and she said, you didn't mention any other areas. Well, I had and she never enquired further! The previous time the lady had finished my main concerns and she asked where else and we did a few on my legs.

For £75, I don't feel like I got my money's worth. What with the form filling and faffing around, I had paid before the 30 minutes were even up. I had no advice about after care. When I got home, I had a big patch of skin coloured concealer on my very white chest, I looked almost comical but was very embarrassed I had been walking around like that. Some green concealer would have made more sense.

That afternoon, the sites of treatment started weeping and I put anti-septic cream on. They continued to weep into the evening and then crusted over. Nearly a week on, I still have unsightly scabs on three sites and a generalised redness around the crust.

So, very little was done for £75 and I had no advice about after care at all. I could have phoned up the place and asked but by the time the weeping was in full force, the place was closed.

I feel mutilated akin to having had cigarette buts placed against my skin, the area is still tender to touch. Sad Sad

Does this sound normal?

I'm no beautician but that doesn't sound normal. Did you get the name of the first person who did the treatment? Or can they work it out by date somehow? You're very brace for sitting through the pain but you should've insisted she stop when it didn't feel right

Sorry it so long - off to pick kids now but will check back later

I am a beauty therapist. I don't do laser but know a bit about it.
I would definitely contact the salon as they should be covered by insurance.
You should ask to speak to the manager & tell them what happened. If you can take any pictures of the areas then show them to the manager.
Do you know if she used a gel on the skin before the treatment ? The weeping & crusting is from burning the skin. She must have had the setting too high & was not following the correct procedure.
Aloe vera or Sudocream may help to soothe the areas.
I hope you get somewhere after speaking to the manager. There may have been complaints from other clients.

I've been having ipl treatment on my face and my therapist always checks the setting with me before starting and during the treatment to ensure it's not going to burn. She then applies aloe Vera gel and a calming face pack and gives full aftercare instructions. Every time.

Doesn't sound like you're treatment was correctly applied. Take photos and complain.

I had veins done and the skin does burn and it left black marks for 2 weeks followed by red marks for 3.
It was painful and I didn't have many.
Sudocrem for a few days should help.
Sorry the burning is normal and it worked for me.

maudeismyfavouritepony · 12/07/2017 22:06

Thanks all - I do think she ought to have lowered the setting. I don't think the burning should be expected. She did apply some sort of gel beforehand. I'm no wimp, I've had two 9lb babies but the pain level was almost of similar levels. Shock

It was a different person from the first time. The lack of aftercare is shocking really and for it to be tender a week later, that should be explained.

I think I will complain.

That looks really sore. Definitely complain. The salon needs to know as the therapist isn't doing the treatment correctly causing damage to the skin. You need to be skilled using laser & be following all the gudelines to avoid any damage to the skin.
