Anyone else who can't wear toe peg sandals/flip flops?

I've never been able to tolerate sandals or flip flops with a toe peg. They hurt from the first step I take in them, and so I have to take them off. I can't build up any tolerance to them either. And I can't keep them on my feet without my feet having to grip them like a claw. I've tried all the brands, they're all the same for me.

It is such a pain, especially on beach or pool holidays and when it is hot and a pair of flip flops would be ideal.

Me.
Only because I lived in them one summer and damaged my metartasal bone.

I live in Birkenstocks now.

I'm going to preface this with a caveat that I have no place on the style and beauty board but these:

Are fab and don't hurt my feet even though I can't go near a pair of peg sandals without wearing out five layers of skin.

silkshirt · 12/07/2017 14:27

Me - I find them uncomfortable to wear but also horrible to look at. I rarely wear sandals though and I prefer ballet flats in the summer. By the pool I'd wear mules or sliders, something like this.

RatherBeRiding · 12/07/2017 14:27

Me! Foot torture. And the number of otherwise gorgeous sandals I have to reject because they have a chuffing toe-post is infuriating Angry.

I luffs my Birkenstocks.

tldr · 12/07/2017 14:30

Have you tried Croc Capri flip flops? I normally hate flip flops but I bought these in a shoe/blister/holiday emergency and have worn them for ten straight years now. You can't even tell you're wearing them.

WellTidy · 12/07/2017 14:30

I am extra awkward as I can't keep mules on my feet either. And I have horrific bunions, so the strap of a mule would lie across the widest part of my foot and wouldn't fit. Those New Look mules are nice though.

I don't have a problem with these, but I'm physically incapable of wearing shoes without a back to them (so Birkenstocks are out for me, sob)

I don't know what it is about my foot that means they always slip out. So frustrating!

catlover1987 · 12/07/2017 14:30

I am exactly the same. I cannot tolerate anything between my toes so tend to go for the foam flip flops that just have a strap across, and they are fine. Something like these (although I admit, they are ugly)

I would love to wear those Croc Capri flip flops. I need to find a stockist and try them. It would be amazing if I could wear flip flops now and again.

Doesn't help with the toe peg but these are great for wearing flip flops that stay on without clawing

Me, I hate them, I cannot walk and the feeling that something is between my toes makes me feel sick Envy

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2017 14:44

Me. But I hate most shoes. I would go barefoot everywhere if I could! Shoes are so uncomfortable. I like wellies best for comfort.

ClementineWardrobe · 12/07/2017 14:44

Me too. Australian husband found it odd at first,he lives in thongs. Have found pretty sandals over the years though. I need more support, I have wide feet, high arches, a very heavy step (the skin on my heels builds up so fast from the impact of my thudding walk). Clarks in some styles and M&S wide fit can be ok, depends on the cut and style. I live mostly in Crocs Classic fit.

MavisFlumpTheFairy · 12/07/2017 14:53

Me too! They're instruments of torture, making me feel sick just thinking about them. I still bear the scars from the first and only pair of toe post flip flops.

Liiinoo · 12/07/2017 14:53

I cannot bear the feel of a toe post. As someone else said it makes me feel a bit sick. I wonder if a reflexologist could explain that.

In summer I live in Fitflop slides.

MikeUniformMike · 12/07/2017 14:56

I hate having my little toe exposed and the toe peg on flip flops tends to be uncomfortable. I wear birkenstocks or crocs instaed of flipflops.

Pestilentialone · 12/07/2017 15:07

Another vote for fitflop slides, get the original wobble boards, they are the widest fit.
Also plimsolls, TBS are the widest ones I have found.
I really do prefer winter, boots are much comfier.

tldr · 12/07/2017 16:20

OP, I've never bought them in a uk shop - but I bought new ones recently on Amazon.

I love the look of thong sandals and have loads. I have found for me that it depends on the softness of the toe posts. Mephistos have a leather post so are great. I have never got used to my pair of Birkenstocks which have a plastic post so they are my garden shoes. I find Fitflops very comfy.

Talisin · 12/07/2017 18:02

I second the Croc capri V flip flops. Never been able to wear flip flops in my life until these. Even converted my mother to them.

hiccupgirl · 12/07/2017 18:33

The only flip flops I have ever been able to tolerate and walk in are the croc ones. Any others I've tried hurt like hell and I have to claw up my toes too.

I just don't get how other people run around, drive, walk around all day in the damn things. They are instruments of torture IMO.

TomaszCanSchafernakerMeAnytime · 12/07/2017 19:23

I bought some Superdry sliders last week, they are soo comfy. I struggle with flip flops too.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 12/07/2017 19:26

I thought I was the only person who couldn't wear flip flops.
I bought a cheap pair for swimming pool and want to cry by the time I get back to changing room

Drywhitewine · 12/07/2017 20:29

I hate them and I always think they look really uncomfortable!
