But I would rather have roman blinds in a funky stripey Laura Ashley fabric in my new bedroom. Am I being studenty and cheap or simple and stylish???

being a grown up for me means spending Saturday evening doing the following:
cleaning spilt burned on rice pud off oven floor
sterilising a zillion bottles
mumsnetting all evening while dh plays wii games
dull, no wine in the house either

I prefer wood blinds. Easier to keep clean with young children IME. It took me months to save up for them.

My mother insisted on curtains as well. So I let her buy them and install them.

I bought blackout curtains - with a liner sewn in - from a small business, in pink for DD1s room, then sewed some fairy appliques my mother sent on on them.

She also has a blackout liner on the window on a tension wire.

No wine in the house? How terrible.

Oww, I can't keep up with who's talking about curtains and who's talking about being grown-up.

lined curtains with plain net curtains if you're being overlooked otherwise you can choose what you like!

For me, its being enthusiastic about the fragrance of a new wasging liquid () or buying toilet cleaner without even thinking of make up in the shops.....

I am getting there. Sadly.

I remember phoning my mum when I moved into my first flat and proudly announcing that I was now a real grown up because I'd been out and bought a lampshade. Am yet to graduate to lined curtains though, over 15 years later.
