Where to buy slightly vintage-y, 40s looking tea dresses?

...Apart from eBay, charity shops and Lindy Bop, I'm already looking there.

I like slightly old-fashioned looking tea dresses/shirt dresses - maybe ones that button up at the front. I'm particularly into floral, polka dot or checked prints. Quite casual (it's for wearing during the day) and a sensible length (as I hate my legs).

This sort of thing, vaguely: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1126/3496/products/Mia_Dress_Flower_Green_of_Grey.com.jpg?v=1459195726

Or this: www.lindybop.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/1/4/1451907268-64076400.jpg

Can anyone recommend some websites or high street stores that sell these sort of dresses? Places similar to Lindy Bop that are quite cheap. Sainsbury's used to be good for this type of thing, but their dresses this year have been a bit rubbish. It doesn't need to be full on vintage-looking, just a bit old fashioned!

Joanie! Bloody love that website.

Elsie's attic

House of Foxy and Seamstress of Bloomsbury are amazing but quite expensive.

There's Lady V London, Collectif, Joanie, Pretty Retro, Victory Parade, Pretty Kitty, Elsie's Attic and Rock N Romance that might do what you are looking for.

Debenhams was actually quite good for this sort of thing last time I looked.

tangledup123 · 11/07/2017 17:50

Ooh, thanks for all the suggestions so far Smile

I've only had time to look at Joanie and Elsie's Attic (I hadn't heard of either before), but they're exactly what I'm looking for. Elsie's Attic look very similar to Lindy Bop. I particularly love the flowery, bird and animal prints, like this: www.elsiesattic.co.uk/product/butterfly-iris-print-swing-dress/

And I'm a big fan of gingham, so I need this from Joanie in blue or pink (it might look a bit school uniform-y, but I don't care!): joanieclothing.com/product/thelma-gingham-shirt-dress/?attribute_pa_size=8&attribute_pa_colour=pink

I'll have a look at the other suggestions tonight or tomorrow. Forever I've heard of Collectif before and love their dresses, so I'm looking forward to checking out your other recommendations.

If you can get to Brighton the North Laine area has loads of shops that sell that sort of thing. The only name that springs to mind is Get Cutie but the website is out of action at the moment.

tessiebear4 · 11/07/2017 18:26

There are absolutely loads of them

Look at Cath Kidston - they often do a lovely 40's frock though not for a while. I live in 40's style tea dresses autumn through spring, and most of mine are CK (often via ebay). I also have a lovely black one from Trollied Dolly. Ebay is good for this sort of thing. Smile
