Skirt advice for person who never wears skirts but wants to

I am size 12 top and bottom, short, and with disappointingly small boobs. I live in jeans, all day every day, but want to be more feminine. I don't have a clue where to start with skirts.

I have finally seen one I like this one in Leaf Hazy Daze but wonder if it would make me look even shorter?

I like the shape of their shirt-dress too, but think the colours are a bit garish.

And what on earth do you wear on your legs and feet with a skirt until it is warm enough for flip-flops? Help!

I don't mind the style of that one, but would prefer it in a more muted colour.

I got a tunic/dress thing which I wear with jeans to dress down or black trousers to dress up. I might get some leggings but not convinced just yet!

I am a fan of the mini-skirt so find it very strange to wear longer things! I tend to wear my skirts with funky tights & boots in winter, and then sandally type shoes in summer. Ballet pumps look good too but I haven't personally got any yet as my feet are awkward!

This is more me... ...because I like plain stuff

MuffinMclay · 24/03/2007 19:28

I like that one. It would go with anything. I think I'd like something like that, and another more flighty and 'girly' one.

Tell me, skirt-wearing people, how do you stop them riding up your legs and twisting round as you walk? That is my abiding memory of last time I wore one. Perhaps it is the way I walk......

Take smaller steps?

fortyplus · 24/03/2007 19:31

Do you like this one?

As a trouser girl I always find that a shorter skirt is better than a longer one. I miss the mobility, basically. Long skirts that are too tight in the legs just get on my tits by tripping me up.

I'd say the secret to not getting tangled up in a skirt is to get one that fits properly on the waist and hips. Too tight on the hips, too loose on the waist and you're asking for trouble. Also there can be issues with the relationship between tights and skirt. If your tights are too long/short and falling down/bagging up at the ankles you're going to be really uncomfortable. Also sometimes the fabric of a skirt slips against the tights meaning the skirt rotates. Gah!

This is why I too only wear skirts when it's really really hot (or I'm doing something very very smart).

Can I recommend perhaps.... a dress??? I find wraparound dresses incredibly comfortable and easy to wear. Even when 41 weeks pregnant!

MuffinMclay ~ you ought to order the (yummy!) boden skirt. Even though it says there will be an 8 week wait you may be lucky and find it gets to you a lot quicker.
I ordered 2 dresses last week that both had a 9 week delay on them and they actually arrived within a couple of days. It's worth a try

MuffinMclay · 24/03/2007 21:30

Oooh top tip. I'll try that then and hope for the best.

MM, try this boden code with your order for 15% off and free delivery ~ LNHE

Let me know if it doesn't work and I can give you another

MuffinMclay · 24/03/2007 21:44

That is really kind of you, thank you, but I already have a (different) 15% off/free delivery code. I bought something from them a few weeks ago and now get something in the post every day offering me discounts.
