Please help me dress my horrible overhang tummy for my holiday

I've put off going abroad for 4 years but DP has finally talked me into going away (in 3 weeks - eek) and I need some holiday clothes.

The problem is everything loos awful as I have a really big tummy overhang. I bought some palazzo pants in Next but they really emphasize it because the elastic sits around my tummy button but my belly is much lower :(

I'm a size 16 - I also need swimmer bottoms (I'm buying a tankini top from Bravissimo as I have big norks too)

Help please!!

I bought a couple of summer dresses in next. They have a drawstring tie above the belly, so accentuate the thin but, and sit nicely, are patterned enough to cover tummy. Above the knee, have also worn them with tights to work. Will try and find a pic.

This was me a few years ago!! I've managed to lose a bit now but the stuff that made me feel most comfortable on holiday was Capri style pants or leggings with a longer tunic top, I always liked my shoulders so could showcase them with sleeveless too.

The longer top I felt broke up the overall size by drawing the eyeline down Smile

If you have a bit you like try and show that off

Enjoy your holiday

I'm just the same thanks to 2 c-sections in 54 weeks Hmm

I have a few pairs of Spanx boy shorts which are really effective. They are quite thin and comfy to wear but they make your tummy over hang flatter and firmer.

I was in your situation last year.

Don't get a tankini top and bikini bottoms. Both bits of fabric roll away from your tummy, and it looks awful.

You want an all-in-one swimsuit, ideally patterned fabric. Try lots on to find one that looks better than others. I found one I really liked in Debenhams last summer.

I also found a bikini in M&S that worked ok. You can usually buy the top and bottoms separately, and they size some of the tops in full range of bra sizes - so I could get a proper fitting 34DD. You need a style with full briefs though, that will cover the extra tummy flab. And again, go for patterned fabric. A lot of their styles also had a matching sarong.

Boden Blackberry dress was also surprisingly comfortable and flattering.

Also, find a high waist pair of cropped white trousers, that fit ok. M&S again have options. Wear with sandals and painted toe nails (painted toenails seem to help distract attention from elsewhere) and then find a range of nice tops that go down to hip length to wear over the top.

Thanks everyone :) I need to buy my cossie from Bravissimo or similar as I have 36hh boobs and they don't have many full suits that I don't think my tummy would cause a spillage issue in :(

I do have one but it's a horrid proper swimsuit which I feel shit in :(

The above top from Boden sale is amazingly flattering and summery.

CarbonMint · 12/07/2017 10:43

How about a 50s style swimsuit?
I have a similar problem and found they fit really well. I also tie a sarong around my waist with it when I'm not in the water.

burnishedsilver · 12/07/2017 10:43

Try not to let it ruin you holiday. Honestly, no one is looking at your tummy. They're all too caught up n their own hang ups to notice anyone elses.

I'm the same size with a small over hang too, I've just got back from holiday and lived in swimsuits with lace/ crochet cover ups for around the pool. Maxi dresses and also cold shoulder dresses they are really flattering as cover tops of arms. Also Bardot dresses x

Sorry forgot to add pull in pants are brilliant, make such a difference under dresses.

CaptainBrickbeard · 12/07/2017 10:50

Curvy Kate high waisted bikini - miles more flattering than a tankini.

Dresses with flared skirts - try Lady Voluptuous, Elsie's Attic, Collectif and Lindy Bop.

Dresses that flare out from just under the breasts are great for disguising tummys. I get mine from Mantaray Debenhams.

NoNeedToArgue · 12/07/2017 15:28

I have a horrible overhang OP so I feel your pain. I've always worn swimsuits but this year I've found the most amazing bikini by Fantasie, called Montreal. The bottoms have an adjustable fold which honestly magics my tummy away. I'm actually looking forward to wearing it, which is a massive breakthrough for me!

Empire line tops and dresses are your friend - don't go for anything that has a waistline. (You can wear any type of trouser underneath.)
For swimsuits, go for something with tummy control - I've found Boden are good, even though you feel like you will never get them on - you will! Go for low leg, skirted, or short style costumes.
I hope you have a lovely time. Flowers
