I hope someone can advise me. I'm on eltroxin for a thyroid problem and my hair is thinning as a result. I have always had THICK hair. Can anyone recommend a shampoo & products to help give my hair volume?? Thank you.

Iron b12 thiroid test

Google iron and hair loss. Most people with thinning hair have lower iron

Yes to a trip back to GP for further tests to rule out underlying issue. In the meantime, biotin (supplement) is very helpful for hair growth. Can't advise re shampoo and conditioner as I find thickening shampoos to be a bit rubbish and too drying for my hair

Ive had lots of problems with thinning hair and falling out. I was reccomended l'oreal serioxyl which is very good and a noticeable difference. You can buy a 1l bottle on amazon for about £20.

Hi OP, I am also on thyroxine for a thyroid problem. Once your thyroid is balanced again your hair should get back to how it was. This does take a few months. I would definitely ask for a blood test to check your thyroid (in case they need to tweak your dose) and iron levels. I was put on iron tablets following blood tests and I needed to adjust the amount of thyroxine I was taking.

I use Philip Kingsley elasticiser which is a pre-wash mask and I have found this really good. I alternate between Liz Earle shampoo and conditioner and use the botanical nourishing hair oil and Philip Kingsley Body Building Shampoo and Moisture Balancing Conditioner.

Just a stab in the dark but are you on mains water or well water?
If it's well water jut the levels of manganese checked as this can cause hair loss

'Get ' not jut flipping auto correct

i've been using viviscal for a while - usually get it on a 20% discount on M&S for the shampoo/conditioner, plus the supplements through amazon subscribe and save. I think my hair looks in much better condition. Agree the elasticizer from Kingsley is great stuff too.

I read somewhere that the active ingredient in PK Elasticizer is castor oil (ricinus), which is supposed to be good on its own to thicken hair. I have bought some castor oil v cheaply from Morrisons online but haven't tried it yet. It's meant to be good for eyelashes too.
