Can I wear sandals to a wedding?

I have a wedding abroad in a sunny part of the States. I've got a smart one shoulder cocktail dress in a light colour, can I get away with wearing these sandals?

I really can't cope in heels and my feet look stupid in strappy heels, which is what would look best with the dress. I don't particularly want to waste money on a pair of shoes I'll never wear again!

(I think I would wear them without the ankle strap)

Hey OP those sandals are really pretty and definitely OK for a wedding, however... as your dress is cocktail, that suggests evening wear to me. And the shoes are not...

Do you have a pic of your dress (or one similar)?

blueskyinmarch · 07/07/2017 18:17

They are very pretty but i do think you would need to wear the ankle strap. They would look rather silly without it and i doubt you would be able to keep them on your feet.

glitterlips1 · 07/07/2017 18:18

Not with a cocktail dress.

rollonthesummer · 07/07/2017 18:21

How would they stay on your feet without the ankle strap?!

NC4now · 07/07/2017 18:22

I don't think you could wear them without the ankle strap. How would that work? Like flip flops?
Lovely as they are, I don't think they are cocktail dressy.
Can we see the frock?

Are most of the guests American? They'll probably not notice your shoes at all, but if they do they'll put it down to the eccentricities of the British.

They are lovely and very summer weddingy. Probably does depend on the dress though.

Thurlow · 07/07/2017 18:37

Trills, I was planning on getting the tattoos and deathly white skin out and emphasize my 'Britishness' Grin

They work fine without the ankle strap and stay on well. I just prefer that look, it's more flattering on my leg shape.

The dress is this style www.google.co.uk/search?safe=off&client=ms-android-samsung&biw=360&bih=271&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=K8ZfWeL9BavBgAaLva_IBg&q=one.shoulder+dress+cocktail&oq=one.shoulder+dress+cocktail&gs_l=mobile-gws-img.3..0i8i30k1l5.11267.12640.0.13469.7.7.0.0.0.0.343.1095.0j4j1j1.6.0....0...1.1.64.mobile-gws-img..2.5.751...35i39k1j0i8i13i30k1j0i8i7i30k1.6B-1vOeT61E#imgrc=k38ujjnYwrlHkM: but more beige/gold (haven't got a photo as it's from a charity shop and currently with a seamstress)

We're paying enough to go to this wedding as it is, part of me resents paying another £30 for a pair of shoes in a colour and style I'll never wear again!

If not sandals, what could I possibly wear?

OP posts:
burnishedsilver · 08/07/2017 13:36

I think the sandals are far too casual for the dress. Would you consider satin ballet flats?

burnishedsilver · 08/07/2017 13:41

Thurlow · 08/07/2017 14:39

Those heroes sandals would definitely work with the dress but I'm not sure what I would wear them for afterwards?

They look good with jeans as the model has them in the pic.

WankYouForTheMusic · 09/07/2017 16:48

I'd say you could wear sandals, but not those ones.
