Burberry Mac?

Leilaniii · 07/07/2017 07:56

I have always wanted a Burberry Mac. I don't really want to go into the reasons why, but I 'deserve' a nice treat and never treat myself so am thinking I should go ahead and buy one.I am not very stylish and tend to get things wrong, or the wrong type, or the man's version by mistake, or something, so I need your help. I am thinking of getting this one. Is it cool? Can I wear it with jeans and Stan Smith trainers? Will I look like a twat as usual?

I would really appreciate your advice. Thanks.

I am not a very 'Burberry' kind of person - not usually a 'classic' dresser, etc. But those macs are bloody gorgeous.

I think the one you have picked is perfect, but hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon!

Thanks Koala Smile.

That's a lovely mac.

LoveCakesandWine · 07/07/2017 08:39

Lovely!

I love them but after seeing Keira Knightly in a black one, it looked so much cooler than the tan ones.

Looks great! However, small sidenote, I can't see where it is but there is some leather trim on it according to the description. Unfortunately, I live to tell the tale that brings with it a very costly dry cleaning bill.

Would also suggest going into a Burberry shop and trying them on rather than buying online. I came to the conclusion they just don't suit me despite trying my hardest to find one in their vast assortment. Staff were very helpful with showing alterations that made them so much better looking (a few cm length and a nip in the waist) but they were still not for me (I had an issue with the shoulders) but I could definitely see how those few small alterations (they were free IIRC) would take it from great to absolutely stunning for someone else and I'd only feel comfortable having that done with the brand itself.

I have that one and it is indeed lovely. The leather trim is just the buckles on the belt/sleeves, which can be removed before dry cleaning. Having said that, I haven't found anywhere to get mine cleaned who would guarantee they wouldn't ruin it so I've gone 3 years so far without cleaning mine! They do spot clean well under a tap though.

Just to note that if you have any flights coming up OP you can make a big saving by buying VAT free at an airport with a Burberry store. You can also take them to any other Burberry store if you need alterations (included in the cost).

Very classic op. I also think you should try before you buy. It's a lot of money so worth the trip.

ImADingleDangleScarecrow · 07/07/2017 19:26

I think it's lovely but I'd get it from a Burberry store rather than online so you can get it altered if needed.

ConstanceCraving · 07/07/2017 19:36

I really like that OP. Classic imo.

imjessie · 07/07/2017 21:48

It's lovely in navy and will looks slightly more casual to fit your look . And it will stay clean better .

Ktown · 08/07/2017 07:01

I found they can look a bit bunched at the wait so definitely try before you buy.
I looked like a barrel in one!!

Leilaniii · 08/07/2017 07:40

Oh dear. I am quite fat busty so I hope I won't look enormous in it.

Some are voluminous, there's no denying it. But they have several Macs so that's why you really have to go to a shop and try them all on.

Floisme · 08/07/2017 10:12

I think you have great taste - that's a very classy coat. I definitely agree about making a trip to a Burberry shop and trying some on first, especially if they do alterations. There are 3 things I would want to check out:

Length - probably less of an issue if you're mostly going to wear with jeans (your outfit sounds great by the way) but if you also want to wear it with skirts or dresses, I'd take a couple along to make sure they work, lengthwise. And assuming you'll want to wear it for years to come, I'd factor in the likelihood of falling hemlines too.

Colour - I think if I was buying something iconic like a Burberry, I'd want a traditional colour but I look like crap in some shades of beige so I'd want to try on a few and get opinions.

Double or single breasted - if you're busty then single breasted might give you a more streamlined look but again it's a case of trying some on.

These are all things that I'm sure their sales staff would advise on plus, although I've never stepped foot inside the shop, I imagine they would treat you like the queen for a day and make it an enjoyable experience.

I hope it gives you years of pleasure.

God, I made the mistake of looking at the Burberry website. They have a shearling version.....drooooool.....

But actually OP it seems the Kensington is the baggiest one. The Sandringham is slimmer. Then there's the Chelsea which is the narrowest but I suspect only Kate Middleton need apply for that one.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 08/07/2017 12:03

I love Burberry macs, I'd sooner splash out on a decent one from them than spend that kind of money on a bag, any day of the week.

They are so beautiful and you definitely won't look like a twat whatever you wear with it, good luck finding the right style.
