Is a 'loose perm' a thing?

I'm booked in for a perm in a few weeks time and I had hoped for a loose curl perm, but someone said to me today that it may not be possible.

I wanted something like this -

My hair is very thin, and I was hoping it might give it a bit more poof to it...it's quite long as well, around the middle of my back.

I don't want to ask the hair dresser, make myself look stupid and potentially walk into a hair disaster.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing! My hairdresser said a perm is a perm, and it's the size of the rollers that define the curl. I'm not sure of the different sizes they do though.

Digital perms go straight when wet and curl when try and can achieve this sort of effect, but they are very expensive if the hairdresser can't get the look you're looking for and your not happy with it.

It's risky. She is my regular hairdresser and I've used her for years now and she has frequently said she'd love to perm me but I've always said no. But I fancy a big change now and I'm considering it if I can get that type of look.

I always assumed it would be tight little ringlets. I never wear my hair up, always down so figure it'll be nice not to have to blowdry and straighten it anymore, that would be a bonus.

Is that what she has in mind too?

I'm due to get my hair done (cut and died) next week and she's going to show me her sizes. But seeing as I've never used rollers or anything idk how I can picture them from a item to a curl on my head, if that even makes any sense.

How long does a perm last anyway? It would just be a case of growing it out, or still continuing to straighten it daily anyway?

I'd LOVE to take the chance, and I think I will anyway but I still feel nervous of ruining my hair

The looser it is the quicker it will fall out. If it's a cold perm as long as you use a nourishing conditioner (the chemicals have regaled your hair) then you won't end up with knackered hair.
