shipfaced · 05/07/2017 19:13

I was looking at suncream today and totally overwhelmed about which to buy.

Family of 4 (7&10) going to Portugal this month. Fair skin.
There were sprays , creams , invisible sprays, insect protection , non-insect etc etc
And about 6 different brands.

Please can someone buy for me ....

Lancaster is my fav as it goes on more like a normal moisturiser so doesnt feel like its sitting on your skin. www.allbeauty.com/brands/lancaster

Choose one with 4 or 5 star uva rating. We have taken nivea trigger 300ml bottles and they are 4 star. They were 2 for £11 in tesco

Branleuse · 05/07/2017 20:12

I always get the calypso spray, factor 30. Quick to apply, not greasy at all, cheap, and none of us have burned wearing it

shipfaced · 05/07/2017 20:36

Is the trigger easy enough to use once your hands are greasy from rubbing the cream in?

dementedpixie · 05/07/2017 21:20

I find it easier to use the trigger ones rather than the push button ones when you have a slimy hands.

dementedpixie · 05/07/2017 21:26

Might even be 2 for £9 which is good for the 300ml size

SlothMama · 05/07/2017 21:31

I have fair skin and I use factor 30, I don't have a particular brand I stick with. I use a mixture of Hawaiian Tropic, Ambre Solaire, Piz Buin and Nivea. Whatever is on offer to be honest! I find that the creams last longer, whilst the clear sprays are less messy. I do like the aerosol ones but for the two of us they barely last 2 days!

Is boots own any good?

It's ok but overpriced (imo) for an own brand cream. I have used Superdrug, asda, Tesco, Morrisons, aldi, etc own brand and they have all worked fine and have 5 star uva.

Ultrasun spf 30 Family - brilliant

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/07/2017 19:38

I use Nivea water resistant moisturising pumps in SPF 20 and 30 (I'm very fair). Around £6. I really notice the difference when I miss a spot so they are definitely effective (although my application is lazy and sloppy - I literally have a handprint where I didn't bother applying it very well/at all when I was in Morocco earlier this week).

I used to use Lancaster/Clinique/whatever expensive brand Space NK were selling but find Nivea works best for me.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/07/2017 20:40

Superdrug solait are doing a factor 50spf with infra red protection for £9. Infrared has been found to age skin.

It's not tested on animals either. Buav approved 🐰

ilovecherries · 06/07/2017 20:47

For the first time ever I've not been bitten, burned or come out in a sun-rash. MY skin is hugely sun sensitive, especially on my arms, lower legs and chest. I'm using the soltan 50spf with the insect repellent. However, in two weeks, I've used a litre of the stuff (I'm well into my third huge bottle) and given you can't buy it abroad, that's a lot to take for a family.

LockedOutOfMN · 06/07/2017 20:50

La Roche Posay factor 50 spray on mist. Not expensive and highly effective. Manages to keep its consistency in the spray can even in really hot weather.

han01uk · 06/07/2017 21:04

I would definitely go for a "once a day" type. Ultrasun is great and lasts ages,or I'm using P50 at the moment which is very good too. I've never had any sunburn problems,if the kids are literally out all day and swimming etc I'll add another layer but otherwise it's fab. And saves the fight to apply the damned stuff so often!!

MaQueen · 06/07/2017 21:15

Which ones are totally non greasy, and I mean totally as I can't bear to feel sticky and have greasy hands [shudder]

han01uk · 06/07/2017 21:26

McQueen - Ultrasun!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/07/2017 23:55

Calypso once a day,amazing stuff.

shipfaced · 07/07/2017 17:41

I've never heard of half of these suggestions!

stoplickingthetelly · 07/07/2017 20:34

Boots Soltan is fab. We only use factor 40 or 50. Never anything less. Never burnt using it.

Cakescakescakes · 07/07/2017 22:11

Ultrasun Family 30. Once a day, non greasy, super effective on my family - pale and eczema prone. It's pricier but as it's once a day it doesn't work out too bad.

Cakescakescakes · 07/07/2017 22:11

Yes to Ultrasun being non greasy. I am phonic about greasy sticky creams and it's the only one I will use for this very reason!

Cakescakescakes · 07/07/2017 22:11

Phobic

boggedoff · 07/07/2017 22:13

get ultrasun from qvc

SprinkleOfInsanity · 07/07/2017 22:14

Ultrasun, it's amazing for long lasting sun protection for sensitive. The added bonus is that it doesn't stain clothes.
