Hair care in your 40s

I've just turned 40 and I'm fed up with my hair. It's mid length and dark brunette but I have to colour it every 5 or 6 weeks to cover up the grey - sometimes at a salon, sometimes at home depending on funds. It's thick hair and used to be soft and shiny but these days it feels lacklustre and dry. Not sure if it's repeated colouring or my age or both!

I'm half considering stopping colouring it altogether but I still feel a bit young to go grey (and there's quite a bit of it I think). It's just such a faff though, I don't enjoy going to the salon. Does anyone have any amazing product recommendations for coloured hair or tips on caring for hair as you get older? Help!

I have the same problem! Not totally sorted but olea colour and olapex 3 conditioning treatment has helped. Hope someone else has extra wonder cures

44 and my hair is just awful, greasy one minute then dry and wispy and breaking the next.
I've switched to better shampoo and conditioner OGX Range, and it helps a lot but I think it must be hormones. I'm also trying to grow out all colour and then plan on only getting highlights to break it up and not have the grey coming in looking as obvious.

Oh great thank you, I will check those out!

Rahua products made a truly staggering difference to my hair. Really unbelievable. Back to the same soft, smooth, silky texture of my twenties.

I use the normal stuff, not the new colour care range (it's too moisturising).

gosh i feel your pain
it surely has alot to do with hormones - i am slightly older and have noticed a difference same as you describe
i use alot of argan oil in my shampoo and after its dry
the main prob is the roots showing after 3 weeks - nothing covers them only the salon expensive trip
would love to find a product that really works but it all adds to the cost !

Same here. Have to go to a salon every 2- 3 weeks to cover grey roots. Home colour messes up my hair as I end up with different shades and it goes brassy. It then costs a lot to put right. After a new base colour, half head highlights and cut, I just had a brazilian blow dry at Rush yesterday. £99 offer on Weds (London). It looks amazing, but early days. I'll update how it looks in 2 weeks.

Has anyone tried the Plantur shampoo? My hair is now fine and breaks and sheds a lot and I am looking for anything which would help give it some oomph and stop the shedding!
