Has anyone tried Joanie Clothing?!

Need a practical swimming costume that isn't frumpy... and I think the bikini days are over Cake

I think this one could be good for covering my problem area (tummy)

https://joanieclothing.com/product/dotty-polka-dot-swimsuit/

Seems too good to be true, as the M&S version was £40...?!?!

What do you think? Can anyone else recommend any good options?! X

I like it...

GriseldaChop · 05/07/2017 18:17

I think it's nice, I don't think it is frumpy, order it and try it on. Smile

Sukitakeitoff · 05/07/2017 18:21

I think swim skirts are frumpy sorry. And draw attention to the fact you're self conscious about your size, without doing much to actually flatter or disguise problem areas.

Ginmakesitallok · 05/07/2017 18:22

I've just bought this and love it www.next.co.uk/g752168s2#700142

MrsChopper · 05/07/2017 18:23

I've recently bought this one from Next. It has tumny control bits. It also has nice padding to give your boobs a little lift. I took DS swimming today (first time I have been to a swimming pool in approx 12 years Blush ) and it was great. It held everything in and made me feel a bit more confident.

MrsChopper · 05/07/2017 18:24

I am a size 16 too with a wobbly postpartum belly Blush

bonfireheart · 05/07/2017 18:29

It's lovely.
Ignore anyone who says it'll draw attention to you.
I wear shorts n a tankini top to swim n just get ignored.
And if people in skimpy bikinis can wear what they want to so can entire else. Anyone who judges is the problem not you.

Becstarlenski · 05/07/2017 18:29

I've just bought the Ariel bikini from Joanie,
joanieclothing.com/product/ariel-tropical-print-high-waist-bikini/
it fits me well and hides my tummy which I really hate, I really like their stuff it's wearable vintage which I love.

Bluntness100 · 05/07/2017 18:29

I hate to say it but I think skirted costumes shout " I think I'm fat and I'm covering up". You seldom see a slim woman in one.

If it makes you feel more confident go for it, but honestly I'd look at you in it and my first thought would be you were trying to cover up and not happy with your body.

The costumes posted are lovely, go for something like that.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 05/07/2017 18:33

I'm a member of our local spa and you see quite a few women wearing skirted swimming costumes.
The only issue I have is he skirt bit can float up when you are in the water and obviously takes longer to dry when you are sat out poolside.

I have a couple of dresses from Joanne clothing that are fab quality. I like them as retro without being over the top

Iamastonished · 05/07/2017 18:37

It might be an age thing, but I'm 58 and if I wore that it would add 20 years on me. On someone much younger it probably would look sensational.

ontherightpath · 05/07/2017 19:00

I think it's lovely & would definitely wear it. I'm slim and would prefer it over something skimpy, nothing wrong with covering up a bit.

Therealslimshady1 · 05/07/2017 19:04

I have one similar to that, in my mind's eye it looks like a cute sexy minidress when I wear it Grin

I avoid mirrors, which helps

But seriously, it looks nice

However, once wet you will notice it takes much longer to dry, so if you lie in the sun it feels you are wrapped in a wet towel

Strongbeatsskinny · 05/07/2017 19:08

I saw two ladies in that sort of thing in a spa last weekend if you feel more confident in something like that just buy it

Frouby · 05/07/2017 19:12

Its lovely OP. Wear what you feel comfortable in.

I have just bought a couple of tankinis from brastop. A freya sports one and another one I cant remember the brand of. If yours don't look right maybe have a look on there.

NC4now · 05/07/2017 22:14

I've got a problem tum and this is flattering. I think skirts scream 'I'm trying to hide!' and actually draw more attention.

UsernameInvalid66 · 05/07/2017 23:03

I don't see that as frumpy at all. It looks interestingly retro. I can image a very glamorous rockabilly type woman wearing it with bright red lipstick and nobody would think it was frumpy then!

defineme · 05/07/2017 23:13

So, do you look better in your underwear or a mini dress?
Do you have short legs or long legs?
Ime swimskirts suit the longer of leg because they hang lower when wet and can look very frumpy on shorter legs.
If you have a pear shape then a high leg is more flattering than a skirts which draws a line across your widest part.
Tummy issues are far better dealt with by control swim suits or high waist bikinis.
However, a long legged apple with no urge to do their bikini line should definitely get a skirt suit!

PorklessPie · 06/07/2017 06:40

I love it op, I'm tempted by it to be honest. Joanie clothing are really good quality too. They are quite generous in their dresses I had to size down.

brunette89 · 06/07/2017 07:37

@PorklessPie that's good to know!
Glad I found it to be honest - clothes in my size are usually really overpriced xx

OP posts:
PuckeredAhole · 06/07/2017 07:41

I think.it.may be practically impossible for a swimsuit to be frumpy!! I like the OPs original swimsuit. Swimwear doesn't automatically mean bra and knickers.

PuckeredAhole · 06/07/2017 07:43

Also when I was a size 10 is still wore swimsuits like that because I prefer the slightly more modest look - just my style really whatever my size. Being a 16 now my liking for these suits is a good thing I think!

PorklessPie · 06/07/2017 10:30

I'm a size 8-10 and this is my swimsuit. So long as I feel comfortable I don't care what anyone thinks of it Smile

Would you wear this - please be honest!
bonfireheart · 06/07/2017 13:06

Exactly Porkless. Am also a size 8-10 and happily wear shorts when swimming. This whole "you must hate your body" is nonsense and anyone who judges people by what they wear needs to ask themselves a few questions.
