How do you hide big tummy?

Userwithoutaname · 04/07/2017 23:38

I'm size 16, wobbly big tum (been asked several times if I'm pregnant - I'm 52 fgs!) I like wearing leggings because I've long legs and they're not bad. What do you wear with them that isn't too clingy to show the rolls of fat but not too loose to look like a maternity smock?

And how does layering work? Would it work? Maybe long vest top with something looser on top? I'm hopeless ... but feel really down about how I look and would like to feel a bit better about myself.

TIA

Tunic tops with v necks over leggings is my go-to look.

Userwithoutaname · 05/07/2017 00:02

Can you link to the sort of tunic top you wear? I have some from h&m but they're too figure hugging. But too baggy and they make me look enormous.

You could try longer line, skimming tops that end at your hips. Also longer line open cardis or jackets in a different colour to top would create some vertical lines or colour blocks to draw attention away from your middle.

A short dress which would be long enough to cover your bottom but still be short enough not to look too mumsy iswim. Have a look in uniqlo, I love that shop. Lots of good quality, affordable basics in there.

Lots of layering pieces here

Try a search for Caroline Ann on eBay - she makes some really nice, flattering tunic tops and dresses. Also check out Lagenlook.co.uk - some of their stuff is voluminous, but there are also some gems there. An eBay search on 'lagenlook' can find nice things too, also 'Zanzea' - one of the cheap Chinese clothes outlets that has some surprisingly good items - quirky. Zanzea also sell on Amazon, but the prices are higher there. I'm 58 with a big tummy, and slim legs (yes, I look like a lollipop), but am increasingly embracing the weird and wonderful, as opposed to trying to blend in. Good luck!

I got a new t shirt from Krisp - I can't remember how I found them - and it is long line so plenty of fabric. krisp Not exciting but best t shirt I found in a while. Other than it is tunics and skinnies for me.

Hello 16 with big tummy and I love the feel of leggings on but there really isn't much to wear with them thatvis flattering apart from over sized baggy tops that are long but with fitted arms so don't just be look like I'm wearing a few sizes too big, got a couple from tk max. But I look the best in proper fitted high waist jeans, not as comfortable as leggings but they hold me in and I'm not worried about my bum showing so it's a different kind of comfortable

troodiedoo · 05/07/2017 09:49

Evans do loosely fitted basic v neck t shirts. They won't win any fashion awards but are comfortable and come in nice colours. Teamed with decent jeans/leggings and nice sandals/ trainers you can stay the right side of frumpy.

Natural fibres, avoid clingy jersey like the plague.

Ohyesiam · 05/07/2017 13:57

And of you want to change it, I've just done the blood sugar diet, and for the first time in many many years I am not shaped like a lollipop. I'm actually a stone heavier than a few years ago, but a much better shape, and suit "normal" clothes, not just smocks and empire line dresses.
It's good to have great legs though isn't it?

Userwithoutaname · 05/07/2017 17:01

Thanks for all the ideas. I'll try and embrace the layering look but some of the things look weird!

I usually wear long vests with jeans and long cardis and feel ok like that but thought something looser might be more flattering.

I'll have a look at all the suggestions.

Have you thought about high waisted skinny jeans? They are so stretchy and really pull your stomach in. You could wear them with loose but fitted shirts - maybe buy fitted shirts one size bigger than you need?

Or something like this that skims your stomach? m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-tops-t-shirts/short-sleeved-tops/wo126-blk/womens-black-supersoft-swing-tee

Userwithoutaname · 05/07/2017 17:36

Maybe something like this

Userwithoutaname · 05/07/2017 17:37

Shes can you recommend any? I've got some from M&S but still feel big in them.

I've tried the no sugar diet but just felt really restricted in what I could eat and wouldn't be able to eat that way for the rest of my life.

Bonmarche also has a few nice tops

Unicorn81 · 05/07/2017 20:07

Oh and m and s outlets have soft jeggings for 15 quid, so comfortable

RoganJosh · 05/07/2017 20:09

Shirts always work for me, as fitted or straight as you feel suits you best.
I tend to get gaping buttons so either safety pin them, or if it's a shirt that I can get over my head, then I see them shut.

RoganJosh · 05/07/2017 20:09

*sew them shut

troodiedoo · 05/07/2017 20:12

Now that is a good idea!
