How many items of clothing do you have?

Just wondering how much clothing and accessories other people have?

I'm trying to do a clear out due to new bedroom furniture and lack of space, DH says that I should just get rid of it all as I have so much I don't use. I've managed to be ruthless with old, damaged and scruffy things but I cannot let go of some of my pre baby weight clothes. Even down to vest tops and PJ's I seem to have far too much Confused

Not enough, I don't think. I really need some new pyjamas, underwear and tops. I'd like to get a couple of smart, fitted jackets to wear with jeans as well. I'd like to get some shoes with heels, as I tend to wear flats all of the time and I'd like to get some skirts but can never find any that suit me.

Honestly? I have probably about 500-600 excluding pre baby weight Ines along with old coats I can't bear to throw out in the attic. I don't have enough storage and often feel overwhelmed. I spend time every single evening browsing on the internet and it is like a hobby. I need to take up a proper hobby that I will actually benefit from.

today I sent to the charity shop 3 bin bags of my old slim clothes - haven't worn any of it for 7 yrs and some of it was double that age. I probably chucked 100 -150 items. I have probably 50 items up the attic - 1st clubbing dress, handmade ball gown etc.

I still have probably 50 items that I have kept as I want to slim into them ( urgh). I will likely chuck them if I ever actually slim down as they will be old and weirdly I have no problem in getting rid of clothes that are too large !

probably 30 items in current use. plus tonnes of shoes, 10 bags and loads of cheap costume jewellery.

I was drowning in it and I already feel mentally lighter. my dream is one tiny kondo style wardrobe with 10 items of beautiful, quality clothes that all co ordinate so I look polished at all times and getting dressed is a breeze. that however is very unlikely.

I am fed up of having a bedroom like a messy teenager.

I have far too many and can't seem to whittle it down. I have tried to clean out my wardrobe 3 times in the last fortnight. It just seems an insurmountable task that I can't face and believe it or not I get a bit teary and angry with myself.

There is nothing that doesn't fit so it seems such a waste to give/chuck away. I just have a problem with buying in the sales.

I never buy anything full price. I buy items based on the price rather than whether they are what I like or what suits me.

It's something I can't seem to get past. I have a bigger budget than ever for clothes as the DC have grown up but I can't justify in my head buying a £49 top in mint Velvet over a £6 reduced to £4 asda top....

I'll be watching this thread with interest.

Thanks Op.

I've started to do a very basic KonMari clear out every three months, and when I say basic I mean I just ask 'does this give me joy?' I now get rid of tons of stuff I found it impossible to get rid of before - especially my designer pre-kids stuff; there's nowt wrong with it, it fits me, and post-kids I don't have the money to buy that kind of stuff so I can't update it. But it just doesn't fit my style anymore. Clothes that don't fit seem to be your biggest problem - but the fact is if you do slim down, the first thing you'll do is buy new stuff. You won't wear the old stuff ever - get rid of it!

I think the technical term is "a shitload".

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 04/07/2017 14:16

Not including shoes, bags, jewellery, underwear/vests, nightwear and accessories, about 180 items of clothing.

Bellaboo9 · 04/07/2017 19:32

Thanks for all the replies. I've got rid of two bin bangs full today and if I get a chance will start on the wardrobe tomorrow.

I've got rid of the jeans that are too small for me and the tops that I'm not too fussed about and already that feels better! Shoes and bags will be harder though. I will do a count at the and see how it compares.

About 45 [ grin] honestly, I've just counted. Didn't take me long Grin not counting pyjamas.

We live in quite a small space so not much room. And I hate having lots of stuff. I love TOAST clothing and am always on eBay looking for something but I don't buy much and very often it's one in, one out.

I used to love clothes shopping but not so much anymore. Can't bear having anything that I don't use/wear.

passtheharibo · 05/07/2017 19:40

I know the answer to this one as I itemised all my clothes with a view to finding my optimum number. 148 including shoes, coats, workout wear and scarves but not including other jewellery and undies/ pyjamas.

missadasmith · 05/07/2017 19:59

about 30 (excluding underwear)
and 5 pairs of shoes

I keep it simple on purpose, many black and monochrome items. everything goes with everything.

I only buy if I need and if I get a new item, an old item has to go.

Also, if I haven't worn an item for a few months it goes too. I am pretty minimalistic in that sense. Plus I haven't got much money to spend anyways Grin
