A step too far?

My friends say this is a step too far, but I'm so tempted.

I am someone who just can't be bothered with too much personal maintenance. I have very short hair which gets cut every 6-8 weeks and coloured because I don't want to give in to the grey.

I am sporty and a very sweaty person so wash my hair every time I run or swim or whatever.

I'm beginning to think that I can't be bothered with all that and put it out there that I might just shave the lot off.

For context, I am 49, 5'4", just under 9 stone, athletic look/build, tomboy by nature and clothing choices but I do wear simple shift dresses with flats, no jewellery, bit of mascara to prevent people thinking I'm dead.

Would it be a step too far?

If you want to try it then go for it.

It'll grow back quickly enough if you decide it's not for you.

FeiYenKansu · 01/07/2017 15:45

What about slightly longer on top then just ruffle to dry it?

A step too far?

One of my friends suggested that work won't like it, but what about people with alopecia or who are undergoing chemotherapy? Surely they can't discriminate for having no hair?

Fei - that looks good but mine is only a tiny bit longer round my ears and would still need the dreaded colour doing.

Do you mean bald bald or as per the photo above? The photo above is quite nice. Bald bald is fine if you like it though I guess. It's only hair

PratStick · 01/07/2017 17:04

If you went very short I don't think the grey would be as big an issue. And far less noteworthy than bald.

I can't see what work can say about it-it's your hair!

A step too far?

Wigs and scarves and hats would be ok too.

Why not wait till you have a couple weeks holiday and then do it? Your hair is very short anyway so it will grow back quickly if you hate it and if you love it keep it going

I mean about a number 2.

I would say go for it, it will soon grow, if you change your mind.

PratStick · 01/07/2017 17:12

Yeah go for it op.

A step too far?

It certainly would be practical, and save you a lot of time and money. But you've posted on Style and Beauty, so I feel obliged to say please don't do it, OP - it'll look absolutely terrible!!

BigBairyHollocks · 01/07/2017 19:09

I think it totally depends on what you look like and if you are generally done up.You might find it more work having to do make up etc so you don't look ill, rather than finding it's an easy solution.

I would suggest keep your short cut, maybe short and spikey but to stop colouring. A short sharp grey cut can look 'funky'.
