Natural hair dyes to go brown to blonde?

moumoute · 30/06/2017 14:22

Commercial ones or diy, as anyone managed to lighten hair? I am dark brown with blonde highlights. I found out that I'm pregnant and I have awful roots of two different shades than my length. I read that dying hair with chemicals is taking risks.
What can I do? :(

Not gonna wear a hat for 9 months.

Grateful for tips!

Use peroxide

AndTakeYourHorseWithYou · 30/06/2017 14:42

There aren't any natural ways to go from brown to blonde. But neither is there any reason you shouldn't bleach your hair.
Don't believe all the random shit you read.

AndTakeYourHorseWithYou I really read both that it's fine to dye hair and that it's harmful...Who can I trust? I'm only 5 weeks pregnant. Blush

You can get highlights, OP, as they don't touch the scalp.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 30/06/2017 20:47

Yes I think it's about chemicals being put on scalp.
Yes to full head highlights but no to using dyes that go all over if that makes sense.

abbsisspartacus · 30/06/2017 20:49

Lemon juice and hairdryer might blend you in a bit

AndTakeYourHorseWithYou · 30/06/2017 20:50

Yes, I have. Like millions of others. If hair dye could harm a fetus it would harm you when you weren't pregnant. But it can't.

Summerisdone · 30/06/2017 20:58

The bleach does not harm your child in anyway, that is a myth. The real reason you're recommended not bleaching whilst pregnant is because it can be more damaging to your hair, I can't fully remember the exact reasons why but I think it's something to do with the porosity of your hair whilst pregnant.
I have been told this by 2 different hairdressers and I got the reassurance from Dr that baby wouldn't be at risk whilst I was pregnant, because I had blue hair at time so had to regularly bleach roots before I could apply the blue.

Thanks for your replies all.
Although, saying it won't harm the baby because it doesn't harm you doesn't apply to everything -> pregnant women shouldn't eat raw fish, soft cheese, drink alcohol, etc. It wouldn't harm the mum but could harm the baby... :/ see why I'm still skeptical...but I am already so annoyed with my roots.

You can die your hair op. It's fine. One study found that hairdressers were at a slight increased risk of miscarriage than the general population. However the study was not able to tell if this was because of hair dyes and chemicals used or for any other reason. No study has ever linked hair dye = fetal abnormalilty. The myth of 'don't dye your hair in pregnancy' seems to have largely originated from the states where the society is more litigatious and hairdressers fear being sued if a client was to miscarry.

A really good read for all pregnant ladies is 'expecting better' by Emily Oster. She debunks all the nonsense surrounding a lot of pregnancy advice.

namechange20050 thanks for the reference, will have a look!
I am so so eager to dye my hair...

I had highlights done regularly throughout two pregnancies. I understand your worries but I'm convinced there is no risk. My hairdresser explained the colour could take differently due to the hormone changes but it was all fine for me.
Congratulations too!
