Do those neck tightening exercises work?

I've been gurning madly for a fortnight. I think they might be making a teeny diff. Anyone got any idea if I'm imagining it or not?

Ooh, what ones are you doing?

Lanaorana2 · 29/06/2017 21:33

KIssing the Giraffe (head back, kiss air); tongue out as far as poss; clenching jaw.

These get mentioned in a PG Wodehouse book. He sees his mother doing them and is convinced she's gone insane.

Not placemarking at all because I also want to know if they work

shinynewusername · 29/06/2017 22:01

Sorry they make no difference at all. Your neck doesn't age due to lack of exercise - you are using the muscles all the time. It ages due to gravity and the degenerative changes of age. You can gurn to your heart's content, but you won't tighten your platysma muscle - though you may give the neighbours a laugh Smile

Surgery is the only option I'm afraid. Literally nothing else has been proven to make a difference

MipMipMip · 29/06/2017 22:39

Bugger.

I would think they might help. If you thicken the muscle round your neck by strengthening it it's going to look smoother. I do some exercises and would say they help, it's remembering to do them that's the prob. The tongue one helps reduce the sag under your jaw.

The facercise neck exercises work for me. Also, callanetics makes your neck look good.

The facercise neck exercises work for me

In what way?

GloriaV · 30/06/2017 17:05

Look on the before and after pics.
I do Eva Fraser exercises and I can see a difference. The wrinkles don't go but you pad out the muscle beneath and it looks less saggy.
My botox chap (frown lines on forehead) who is a doctor told me that exercising causes more lines but I have been told I look better for the exercises so now I am a bit suspect of those who tell me they don't work (especially if they're in the botox/filler business).

I do the kissing the air thing and I'm sure my double chin isn't as obvious. I did used to massage neck and chest for 30 mins a day with oil and that made an absolutely huge difference. I really must get into the habit again.

madmomma · 01/07/2017 00:34

My neck looks smoother, more taut, the skin under my jawline is more toned.

Lanaorana2 · 09/07/2017 19:43

I'm updating because I reckon they do work. Two people have told me I look slimmer in the face.

That, and a touch of bronzer under chin 1, are doing the trick.

Plus I can't see why exercises wouldn't work - ok, you can't change skin tone, but if you tone muscle in any area, it looks fitter and better.

I slap flexitol on my chest once every couple of days and boy, that works. it's vv strong foot moisturiser, so a quick go when you remember is ideal.

Good for you Lana. I'm doing mine now in front of the telly. Is it just the giraffe one you're doing?
