How to have nice hair

I'm wondering what people do who have lovely swishy hair every day? If I straighten my hair it looks vaguely acceptable but still a bit dry and frizzy. What does everyone do????

The women I know with thick swishy hair have a Brazilian blow dry every 3-4 months

ravenbird34 · 29/06/2017 20:04

Oooo what is a brazillian blow dry? I've never heard of that!

I've got a bob, super fine hair though. I blow dry it every morning - a habit I got into when DS was born to give myself 10 minutes every day.

''Tis very swishy and shiny - but stylishly threaded through with grey obvs. Hmm

I have reduced my frizziness almost entirely by stopping shampoos and conditioners /hair products with sodium laurel sulphate or silicone in .

SLS dries out the hair and silicone coats the hair which stops moisture being allowed to enter .

Its part of the curly girl method ..usually people with frizz have it cos their hair is actually wavy /curly and needs more moisture .

ggirl thanks. Can I ask what shampoo conditioner you use? My hairdresser recommended matrix but I haven't tried that yet

I use this one shea moisture and conditioner
There are loads of different ones available ,worth googling the curly girl method to be able to learn what your hair needs ,some hair needs a protein/keratin based conditioner or treatment to help reduce frizz and I can't recall how you tell if your hair needs protein or not..its all a bit of a minefield tbh.

What ggirl said.

And I do the Brazilian Blow Dry every four months. My hair has never looked or felt better.

DivorceDating · 29/06/2017 20:55

What's your hair like @allthingslipsticks? Mine is super curly but thin and I've considered that treatment quite a few times as I blow dry my hair straight.

allthingslipsticks · 29/06/2017 21:17

DivorceDating My natural hair is also super curly and but thick. Since starting the blow-dry 6 years ago my hair is wavy and very manageable.

I would say go for it and give it a try Smile.

Can I ask a stupid question?
With the Brazilian blow dry, could you put those straightener curls into the hair and it would stay that way or not?

I am also very interested in this topic... I find my hair very difficult to manage. Dry and frizzy and with a hectic work and life schedule I simply haven't got the time and energy to style it properly every day.
So most days I just end up combing it and putting it up in a bun or ponytail.
Isn't the Brazilian blowdry harsh and damaging, especially on a regular basis? I would be willing to try

I have just discovered Gum shampoo and conditioner. It's amazing. My hair looks thick and shiny. And best of all, the pound shop stock it now.

poweredbybread · 29/06/2017 22:24

Me the same Member Does anyone know how much a Brazilian blow dry costs ?

allthingslipsticks · 29/06/2017 22:39

Member it depends on which formula the salon offers. The newer formulas tend to formaldehyde free and can be washed out of the hair the same day. I would stay away from the older formulas with formaldehyde, although they are cheaper. Ask the salon in advance and they should be able to advise you.

Member652554 · 29/06/2017 22:54

I wonder if it is the same thing as a keratin blow dry ? Which I have had about 5 years ago ? My hair felt and looked amazing after I came from the salon but After washing it went back to the same dull , frizzy madness lol

quickname · 30/06/2017 19:17

i recommend the keratin/brazilian blow dry too

or I am really happy with this wella 48hr styling gel and oil i'm using at the moment.
when i've washed my hair without i've been quite shocked at how sad, frizzy and thin my hair was without it!
