Wimbledon - what to wear

Daisy2315 · 29/06/2017 09:45

I'm off to Wimbledon next week, we have centre court tickets sat right near the back.

To get there we have a 4 hour journey each way.

How dressed up are people? Would I be alright in jeans, nice top and converse/sandals?

Ooh you lucky thing! I haven't been for years but it's such a great day out.

Pretty much anything goes from what I remember; some people do get very dressed up but equally there will be plenty of people there in jeans. Just make sure you're wearing comfortable shoes as there is a lot of standing and walking around even if you have seats.

Enjoy!

Wear whatever you like! There will be a full range of outfits from smart dresses etc to shorts and strappy tops. No matter what you wear you'll "fit in" fine. Have a really lovely day.

you don't need to be dressed up, comfortable shoes are a must and also something for if it gets chilly, the matches on Centre go on quite late so even if it's nice during the day it can get cold sitting there in the evening (especially if you are in a shaded bit)

Thanks all, that's reassuring. As we have the long train journey as well that's why I am thinking of comfort but didn't want to look out of place.

I went a few years back and it was roasting. I wore cream chino shorts, flat sandals, an embroidered cream vest/halterneck with an oversized pale blue cotton shirt as a cover up.

Hat and shades essential!

Have a (tennis) ball GrinWine

Don't worry about looking out of place - until you go you don't really realize how big/busy it is, there are so many people there and you see all sorts of outfits!

akkakk · 29/06/2017 11:06

tennis whites - no logos more than an inch or so in size - the clothing guide at wimbledon is about 30+ pages long Grin

but if all you are doing is watching, then whatever you want!

chloechloe · 29/06/2017 11:30

I went a few years ago and wore a short silk wrap dress (just from Oasis) with a vest underneath and flat pumps. It was roasting that day but the train ride back to Manchester was freezing so I was glad I'd brought a cardie and a pair of tights which kept me warm but didn't take up much room.

Make sure you have a hat, sunglasses and cream as you may be in the sun all day but equally pack a small brolly as well.

I didn't know that about the logos akkakk! I love all the traditions and rules at Wimbledon!

Thanks for the tips everyone.

I'd go in comfy layers. Style wise doesn't matter unless you have tickets to the VIP bars which are boring imo. It's a lovely atmosphere. A bit like a bit fete with tennis feel wise if that makes any sense.

It's only really final days that people make more effort unless they are in the posh bits. Most people will be in everyday clothes x

Daisy2315 · 29/06/2017 11:46

Thanks we are not in VIP areas at all so that's good.

Yes, you can go as casual or dressed up as you like. My mum used to work there so I've been many times.

Essentials are sunglasses, water and something warm. You might want binoculars or opera glasses if you're right at the back.

The good thing is your seats are yours for the whole day so you can go and explore or go for a break whenever you want and come back. Do give your tickets to be resold for charity if you leave before the end.

textmetoo · 29/06/2017 13:06

Comfy shoes, it's a 20 minute walk from the station and there can be quite a lot of standing and queuing. Layers, a waterproof lightweight jacket and yes to binoculars for snooping in the royal box as well as a foldable sun hat and sunglasses.
We also take a picnic and cans of Pimms to save queuing.
It's a such a great day out.

MiddleClassProblem · 29/06/2017 13:13

You can get shared taxis though to/from the station x
