Easy care haircuts................please

My hair is currently long (3/4 down back) but it is just stragly untidy and dull - so I fancy something new. Here are my requirements:

  1. Has to be easy to care for. I only have time to wash 2-3 times a week and it is always in the evening so I can't have anything that must be styled every morning. I don't blow dry at the mo and would prefer not to but this is not essential
  1. Can't need cutting every 6wks to maintain the style. It is about 18m since I last got it cut and although I intend to do it more often 6 weekly isn't affordable in time or money
  1. I have to be able to wear it off my face for work, so needs scope to be tied back somehow.
  1. My hair is quite wavey underneath but pretty straight on top.

And if I have left you anything to work with after that I would welcome anyt suggestions.

A guess it is a tricky one then

erm - long layers?

I have that, and I just tie it up while it dries and it comes out all wavey (will the grooming police be along to condemn me in a minute?)

northerner · 22/03/2007 14:43

Well if you need to tie it back for work then you need to keep it long, or have a bob.

What texture is your hair btw?

The not blow drying or styling thing is bothering me?.......

It's very hard to just wash your hair and hope it fals back into style imo.

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 22/03/2007 14:43

I assumed layers were hard to care for. Would sort out my top straight, bottom wavey probs...

I don't have to tie it back - it just needs to be out of my face really. I usually tie it all back in one ponytail to acheive this but can clip it back do half-ups and stuff...

My hair is quite thick. I can blow dry it when I wash it - I just can't do it every day...I just don't have teh time.

You have my hair slightlymad....... . And I'd kept it up until last week. I would wash it every day, put serum on it and leave it to dry. It would be OK, the natural wave looked good but the straighter bits on top left it looking straggly.

I'd had enough so I've now got it just below my shoulders with lots of layers and straightened.

Whereas before I had to wash it every day to look reasonable I can wash it twice a week now. The salon told me great tips on products which keep it looking good.

I rough blowdry it and use the products they told me and whizz the straighteners through it. It's still long enough to tie up but I only have to spend 2 sessions a week washing now.

So, lots of layers to take the weight away and straighten with the ends slightly flicking up so it still looks casual and not too 'done'.

NormaStanleyfEGGcher · 22/03/2007 14:45

Mine is a couple of inches (prob) below shoulder length at the moment. I then just go back when it gets to bra-strap length and get it redone.

NormaStanleyfEGGcher · 22/03/2007 14:47

I go about every 12 weeks

ScottishThistle · 22/03/2007 14:52

Depends on your hair, layers are hell for me!

I've got a chin length bob in a side parting, all the same length & my hair takes all of 5mins to blow dry perfectly 2/3 times a week if I leave it for 5mins after washing!

ScottishThistle · 22/03/2007 14:53

I have my hair cut every 10 weeks!

Ponka · 22/03/2007 15:00

You sound like you've got roughly the same hair as me SMS, except thicker. I too am bored and want a change. I am going to get some layers cut in over the next month (when I can make it to a hairdresser) and I'm going to have it a bit shorter but still long.

Just a thought. Why don't you have it coloured or have highlights? That'd be a change.

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 22/03/2007 15:52

But if I have it coloured I would have to go to hairdressers too often.

I used to have it cut inot a bob just below my chin - I just thought it was maybe not fashinoable enough these days (not that I really want to be a mega fashhion statement).

I might try some long layers. If I hate it I can always have it cut down to a short bob...

Oh dear god!

I can't believe I've been called unfashionable!...The Bob is by far one of thee most fashionable hair cuts at the moment & has never really gone out of fashion!

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 22/03/2007 15:56

Oh I didn't mean it like that. The style of bob I used to have I don't think is unfashionale any more - or at least I don't see it about...

I am not exactly a fashion goddess so I probably just don't know what I am talking about.

A very cool Woman on the train the other day said to me "Can I just say I love your hair, it's very 1940's!"

People are calling their children Beryl, the 1940's are very a la mode!

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 22/03/2007 16:01

this is what I used to have - but not in pink

I don't have a fringe but if I suited one I'd have one in a minute but that means more frequent trips to the hairdressers!

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 22/03/2007 16:08

Yeah - I just used to hack at my own fringe between trips, so I think I will give that one miss...

What I have now is great for day to day slinging in a ponytail for work which kind of makes me want to stick as I am. But it is very unflattering and there is very little I can do with it to look 'nice'...
