Does anyone else think that people only start style/lifestyle blogs to brag and to be smug about how much money they have?

Every single blogger/instagrammer that I come across does tend to come across in this manner. Lots are women that are in a relationship with or are married to a man who is wealthy, and they feel pretty smug about it as though they have done well for themselves.

Lots of talk of Mint Velvet, Whistles and Malene Birger 'bargains' of £100+ and lots of smugness about having constant holidays.

Can anyone recommend a blog where a)the blogger hasn't married a rich person and b)the blogger is not smug about a luxurious lifestyle?

I guess that in order to keep interest in your blog, you need new stuff to blog about.

I like
Susie so so
Glam Rosie

Neither post regularly, but are high street bloggers and have seemingly normal budgets and lifestyles.

Agreed. Blogs written by people who don't do anything apart from blog/youtube for a living, or by people who spend their days having a wander around London with a buggy taking arty pictures of their coffee, don't interest me. That said there aren't many who have a full time job that have time to regularly update a fashion blog in my experience! So I would love some recommendations.

I don't know what age group you are looking at but I like 'the frugality', 'my fashionable 40s' and 'the edited' - although I follow more on instagram rather than reading blog posts. I am in my 30s if that helps.

Fikee · 28/06/2017 20:50

In addition- none of tbe above are smug in the slightest and mainly high street with a bit of high end thrown in.

Oh and 'wears my money' - she's my current fav. She works in the music industry and has a relatively new blog. She seems really genuine and down to earth. I reckon she'd be great fun on a night out.

I follow a few where they have plenty of disposable income but don't feel they brag. Like lifestyle magazines they are 'selling' an image. I always imagine it would be quite tiring to keep up constantly. But they are gifted lots of clothes or home wares/trips etc and much of what they show they don't keep. I like them for ideas of style, never to go out and buy the exact same bits. Understand why others find them annoying though. Grin

I noticed MrsGloss on FB now has a 'tm' after the name and lots if affiliate links. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing but sort of makes sense.

Worst for bragging is a blogger/youtuber called Lydia Millen. Awful.

There are also some blogging sisters that have married professional sportsmen and their blog is a smug fest! Can't remember their blog name now though

'The title "Blogger" has to be one of the most underrated careers of the moment. Children everywhere now aspire to be the next "Top" blogger, if there even is such a thing, whilst completely underestimating the sheer workload it involves. It is to be noted, the career is definitely not without it's perks, it is so very easy to let your passion, love and dedication to it, consume you and before long, you come crashing back to earth with a giant thud.'

^From Lydia Millen's blog.

Lololol Grin. Where the actual fuck to even start?! Hmm Confused Grin

Lydia and Caroline Hirons recently got in to a twitter spat. I don't know who I agree with but I do want to know how she can spend seemingly £1k upwards on clothes each month that don't all seem to be for free - I'm sure she's earning a lot but seems to live an otherwise "modest" lifestyle.

Does anyone else think that people only start style/lifestyle blogs to brag and to be smug about how much money they have?

Bourn Sisters, molly?

WipsGlitter · 30/06/2017 10:52

I only really follow them on instagram now. It seems to be a very precarious way to "earn" a living and you definitely need another source of cash income.

UndomesticBlonde · 30/06/2017 10:54

I'm always being told to blog about my wardrobe - but I don't buy as many clothes as these bloggers do, also- I work full time and freelance some evenings too. However I do writ and edit for a living - not that you would guess from my rushed post. My DCs are 8 and 4. When the youngest starts school I might resurrect my blog - I'm not smug though! I shop at M&S, Oasis, Gap, Reiss (only in the sale) Sweaty Betty (only in the sale), plus charity shops and dress agencies. I do know what suits me though and I think that's why people ask me about my clothes.

The only one I follow is Alice Judge-Talbot. She comes across as lovely and funny and real. She has a nice lifestyle but it's not always been like that and she's worked hard to get there (she has a proper job and doesn't just blog!). I think she's great. I can't stand the majority of the others!

WipsGlitter · 30/06/2017 11:45

Yes! Alice is lovely. Her kids are so cute and she's very honest about the hard parts of being a single mum.

RefresherBar · 30/06/2017 12:34

I want to be her best friend Blush
