Ok thanks to my mum's hairy genes, my sisters and I have all inherited a downy upper lip . My eldest sister doesn't seem to notice hers at all so therefore doesn't suffer from the embarassment.
My next sister got electrolysis on hers so it is barely visible but it took years!
I've been bleaching mine and occasionally using hair removal cream but I'd really like to be shot of it for good as I'm really conscious of it. Friends say 'What hair? Don't be ridiculous.' but I'm sure they're just being polite. When I was in bed this morning ds was studying my lip and told me that it was so hairy I was like a 'wild beast' Oh, the heartbreaking honesty of a 4 year old!

I went to see if I could get it lasered off but was told that I had too much melonin in my skin and it wouldn't work. Would cause me to ignite or something

Is electrolysis the best option or are there any other miricle cures?

Not very hairy so no experience of it, but could you wax it?

mumblechum · 22/03/2007 12:11

Christ that would be agony!

bobsyouruncle · 22/03/2007 12:14

my mum is very hairy of upper lip too (but stangely is much less hairy than me in other places (!) I have hairy arms and she doesn't)

Anyway I bleach my tach with boots hair lightener and that works fine at the mo, however my mum has a much more serious tach than me and she bleaches it and it has the effect of highlighting it - not a good look.

I think that there is a point when your tach becomes too thick for bleach at which point I was swap to waxing with a veiw to electrolysis in the future.

I would go to see a professional waxer as I know many friends who have had v embaressing incidents on their upper lips such as burn marks etc from diy treatments "oh I burned it on a cup of tea" tee hee

Thanks for all your suggestions. I have tried waxing once (a home job) and almost lost heart half way through it was so sore but having one side bright red and bald and the other with a wax strip stuck to it was not a good look so steeled myself to finish.
The problem is that with waxing and hair removal cream is that as it's growing back it feels stubbly! I'm sure that all those who don't have this problem are pysl (I know I would in a similar situation) but it doesn't make you feel so feminine when you're wondering if your partner is getting beard rash. Ok, so maybe it's not that bad but still.....

I'm going to go to the local beauty place and ask if they do electrolysis.

Waxing at home with cold wax strips is a bit painful and not easy to do right (I've stripped bits of skin off on several occasions) but with hot wax in a salon is practically painless and lasts much longer. It shouldn't grow back stubbly at all, unlike cream which cuts is at its thicker point.
