Wet Suede Jacket

BeyonceZ · 26/06/2017 21:21

I bought a suede jacket online and I thought it was a steal. When it came, it was damp. It doesn't smell bad, just damp and cold. Is it what how suede is supposed to be like? It's Winter where I am.

Is it actually damp, or does it just feel a bit clammy when you put it on?

BeyonceZ · 27/06/2017 21:14

It feels damp.

The lining is dry though so I'm wondering is this how suede is during Winter?

Is it not just very cold from the post attracting humidity from the air? I'd hang it in an airy place for a while and see how it goes. If you've not got a hanger with extra broad bits for the shoulders you can use two normal ones together, just for that extra bit of airflow.

Yeah when I opened the parcel, it was very cold and I thought kinda damp. Still cold and damp until now. However it does not have a bad smell, as I'd imagine wet suede would have (not sure about this - just a guess).

This is the jacket now. It's very cold but it doesn't smell bad.

I think it attracts humidity from the air. I dried it out when it was sunny and now that it's cold it feels damp again. Is this normal?

PNGirl · 04/07/2017 09:04

No, it's not normal.

It's so weird. It's cold at night and early morning. Then I expose it to sun and it's ok. Then it gets cold (damp-ish) again. I probably should return this.

It looks like pigskin suede to me rather than 'normal' suede, check the label, although it might not say. It does have a slightly different texture, I have a pair of shorts in pigskin and they have a strange 'dampness' feeling about them.

silkpyjamasallday · 04/07/2017 09:48

Here is a blog showing you how to identify it, in pretty certain that's why it doesn't feel how you would expect suede to feel/look

Yeah I suspect its pigskin too because it's not so expensive. The label just says 100% label.

they have a strange 'dampness' feeling about them.

Yes! This is it exactly!

I think it's just how the material feels when cold, of it bothers you return it, but it is a very nice jacket so if you can deal with the damp feeling when you put it on I'd keep it.

But it doesn't get smelly or anything like that? If that's how it is, then I'll keep it. I really like it. Just was perplexed why it feels damp.
