Wedding outfit for a 13 year old girl

Wanda354 · 26/06/2017 14:29

We are going to a family wedding soon and I can't find anything for DD (13) to wear. She's too big for Monsoon girls / Zara girls, but too young for proper adult "event" dresses. Have tried Ted Baker, Jack Wills, Top Shop, etc and found nothing suitable. DD isn't (yet) the kind of teen who's really into dresses and make up - she's more jeans and trainers every day. She wants a nice outfit for this wedding but we just haven't seen anything. She doesn't suit a skater-style/fit-and-flare dress and doesn't like anything too clingy or with cut-outs or that sort of thing. So a lot of ASOS options are out too. She's about 5'1". We've only got a couple of weeks left to find something and I'm starting to panic! There seems to be a real gap in the market for this age group. Where might we find something nice?

Do Boden still do their teen range? I think it was called Johnny B.

Boden do petite range and are not high fashion or overly revealing .. sale on so you might get a nice day dress which will be new and so look smart

Hoppinggreen · 26/06/2017 14:45

My DD mostly likes black skinnies and trainers but the few dresses she will wear are from Superdry.

aaahhhBump · 26/06/2017 14:48

Next petit?
My cousin got married when I was about 13 I wore a navy pinstripe trouser suit with 4 inch navy boots and a teal shell. But I was a bit of a tom boy then. 😁

Playsuit? Three girls 9-15 were all wearing them at a wedding last weekend. Looks put-together but not prissy.

Longji · 26/06/2017 14:52

Next go up to age 16?

yikesanotherbooboo · 26/06/2017 15:06

I think it is fine to dress like a young teen i.e. Not overly formal but she should look as if she has made an effort.
I go round looking at what other people do in this scenario... scan wedding pics

Wanda354 · 26/06/2017 15:54

Have spotted one nice one on Boden which I'll order to try. She likes Superdry but I don't think they're quite smart enough. Chi Chi good shout, thanks GingerLemonTea. WIll also have a look at Yumi.

This is beautiful. It's sold out online but you may be able to find it in the shop. There were loads in Cambridge yesterday.

Have you tried Abercrombie? They have some lovely dresses

Something like this perhaps

My DD is similar. I coaxed her into a Desiguel dress for an event. She will even admit now that it's "OK", which is high praise from a teen.

Monsoon does a tween range now called Storm for ages 8-15. Similar styles to their kids party clothing. I love this blue sequin dress:

Worth a look at the rest of their range too, in case there's something she loves.

SomeOtherFuckers · 26/06/2017 18:42

Sparkly top and black jeans?

At 5'1 she's adult height and even if slim some places like asos and new look do size 4-6?
Try a shift dress? There's a lovely yellow one in topshop rn x

tireddotcom72 · 26/06/2017 18:52

Ax Paris website has hundreds of dresses - sign up for newsletter and get 15% off first order - even my jeans and trainer loving 13 year old found a nice suitable confirmation dress on there

ChippyMinton · 26/06/2017 19:02

We had a similar dilemma recently, and DD chose a dress from Miss Selfridge, and styled it with black trainers and a satin bomber jacket, rather than sandals and a cardi I would've picked. She looked cool and age appropriate rather than girly.

Mercime · 26/06/2017 19:06

My tomboy 12 year old wore the Boden Pascal dress to a christening last month. She looked lovely in it.

Mercime · 26/06/2017 19:07

She wore it with silver trainers

My early teen DDs (taller than yours at that age but very slim so cant buy from all adult ranges) have had clothes (including some smarter ones) from:
TopShop petite
New Look teens
Abercrombie kids
Johnnie B (Boden - although not sure it still exists as such)
Urban Outfitters (current favourite with DD1and friends for the odd thing)
Brandy melville (very popular but mainly tops - not sure if they have many dresses). I think the shops are mainly in London but they have some stuff online
Subdued (not in the UK, but you can get online).
H&M
John lewis
Asos petitie
A lot of the stuff in the adult ranges (eg TopShop petite) will not be suitable, but some will be.

Try also Zara kids, Monsoon kids and Forever 21 kids. They do have the odd thing that works well for older children.
