Hi
i have been informed today that I cannot wear nail varnish at work.
I have acrylic nails and taking them off is not an option, I am going to get them changed to white tip ( French manicure) ones as I hope they will give the company the ' clean' look they require.
My question is can I get them refilled or do I have to have a fresh set put on each time?. My real nails, although weak, grow really fast and I currently have to get refills every 2-3weeks, aswhite tips are more expensive having to get them changed every couple of weeks is something I need to take into consideration
Thankyou!

Can you go back to normal nails?

Cameron2012 · 23/06/2017 16:32

Not an option I'm afraid

Why not?
Could you have shellac or gellish instead of the acrylics? Then you could just have clear and it'd look just like nice shiny nails.
I used to have acrylics with white tips, you don't need to have them taken off each time but after a few infills they do start to feel a bit 'thick',
If I were you though I'd try to go back to natural ones, or at least something other than acrylics. I have Gellish on my natural nails at the moment which protects them and makes them harder but doesn't add thickness.

Why don't you have a very neutral colour put on? Or make absolutely sure that French tips are acceptable before your first day! Acrylics with a white tip should be fine for infills, they will repaint each time anyway.

If this infection control yabu.

If it's not then no you don't have to get them removed, you can rebalance instead and paint a French on.

Germgirl, we arnt meant to wear nail varnish at all, I need a solution that looks like a natural nail, I spend a lot of time with my hands in water ( wearing gloves isn't an option) as I work with food and customer service. My real nails are very weak and just look horrible. I have tried Shellac before and it chipped. I havnt tried gellish so I will look into that.
Teddy,
I have been in this job for a year, it's only today they have announced this.
I love my acrylics, don't particularly like white tips as I agree they look ' false' and the ones I have ATM look like they are my real nails

No this isn't about germ control, this is about some of the girls wearing bright nail varnish, I have always worn a neutral colour🙁
I do realise this is a vey third world problem, it's just my nails are the only vaguely glamorous bit of me, they always look nice and I really like them ( throws tantrum)

Working with food I can understand the no nail varnish rule. Flakes of polish in your dinner?..no thanks.
I have a feeling that white acrylic tips wouldn't be allowed. Couldn't one fall off in the food? Confused

You could try to get away with very short acrylic nails in a nude colour? White tips can look nice but obviously false, iyswim.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 23/06/2017 17:09

Just seen your pic. Those are lovely I must admit!

LaurieFairyCake · 23/06/2017 17:14

They're lovely. But surely no nail varnish means no nail varnish Confused

They will still flake off

Cameron2012 · 23/06/2017 17:17

Early
I see what you are saying but this is purely astetic. I am hoping that the nails in the picture will be a suitable compromise if they are too shiny I have found a clear Matt varnish.
I have never had a tip fall off!! Lol

It's a food hygiene issue. No nail varnish, no fake nails and short, filed nails is good practice in the food industry.

Cameron2012 · 23/06/2017 17:22

Thanks for all your help, I a man going to have a chat with my manager

Having acrylics all the time might be the main factor in making your real nails so weak?
You could try letting your nails recover, use lots of oil on them or can you buy some sort of strengthener for them? You might find you end up with lovely natural nails. You did say they grow quickly... small consolation..
